Clock tower series of games. Clock Tower: Walkthrough. Screenshots of Clock Tower

Clock Tower is one of the scariest Japanese games.
A year after the “first horror,” Jennifer Simpson, one of the two survivors of the Clock Tower, gets a job as an assistant to a famous psychiatrist who is trying to help the girl and shed light on the mystical events associated with Scissorman. The second survivor is a boy named Edward, who lives at the Granite Children's Home and suffers from amnesia after the events at the mansion.
All of Norway was shocked by the sensational murders committed by Scissorman and his supposed death. But when Jennifer is convinced of his death, Scissorman appears again...

The people around her are killed one by one by a crazed killer. Jennifer will once again have to come face to face with Scissorman and deal with the mystery surrounding him in order to deal with him forever. She does this together with her protector Helen.
Each action decides who will survive and what ending the story will have. Also in the first part there is an element of some randomness of the events taking place.

Many people associate the horror genre primarily with two Japanese series and their clones and derivatives; sometimes they remember Alone in the Dark as a common ancestor or more recent representatives, including the inexhaustible zombie source that fuels the imagination of game designers around the world. But there are other pages of history that are rarely opened on our platform.

And this Clock Tower. A game that came to us from the SNES (most likely from the PlayStation, but more on that below). Since when did Nintendo, basking in its family-friendly atmosphere, allow the release of any serious horror on its Super Family Computer, where they covered the tits of antique statues and changed the sign at the entrance to the establishment from “Bar” to “Cafe”? Apparently, an excessively long solar prominence hit someone from the board or censorship committee on the head, which the game creators from Human Entertainment hastened to take advantage of - and Clock Tower was admitted into circulation.

"Clock Tower" is a rather unusual hybrid of a platformer with quest elements. Most of the time there is running along the corridors in two dimensions, and when the heroine gets into the room, another half is added to them. Another thing that hardly correlates with the SNES is the exclusively point"n"click control method using a cursor on the screen. It's quite simple: one click to action or move, two to run and right button to stop. By the way, the mouse for SNES was one of the official accessories, but information about Clock Tower supported her, no.

Of all the Survival Horrors, it is closest to reality with one simple fact: the main role here is a schoolgirl who is unable to give a worthy rebuff to the universal evil and is forced to delay it in every possible way, throw improvised objects, run away and hide from a man with large scissors. And this makes it so effective in building tension: alarming sounds are perceived somehow differently when the handle of a shotgun is not squeezed in your hand, which can scatter all the evil into the corners. There is no equipment here as such, and everything that happens happens on one and the same. on the same screen. In addition to the maniac, there are other factors that have a negative impact on Jennifer’s health (mental or not), expressed in the change in the color of the icon of her face. Even long-distance running has a bad effect on her physical condition. Therefore, sometimes it is not forbidden to just sit down and do it. take a break. Emphasis on the last syllable.

Many parts Clock Tower shamelessly borrowed from the classics of world cinema horror: the girl against the maniac from Dario Argento’s “Phenomena”, the big scissors from “The Burning”, and the very image of the otherworldly maniac - from John Carpenter’s “Halloween”. Moreover, some images of the main character are taken straight from the film - you have no conscience, gentlemen, developers. Even theme song somewhat reminiscent of the soundtracks to Argento's films, especially "Suspiria".

And now - a few words about how it came to us from console foreign lands. Apparently, after the success of the SNES release and especially the sequel for PSX, which appeared a year later, in 1997 the creators decided to transfer the updated version of the classic to more modern systems. By some miracle, Windows was one of them. There are not many differences: music in midi, sounds in .wav and the original intro in 3D graphics. Otherwise everything is the same. Even the language was left unchanged! But here the popularity of the series played into our hands: there is a fan translation not only for the original game, but also for this not the most widespread Windows release.

And this circumstance breaks down all the existing obstacles to getting acquainted with the “Clock Tower”. Moreover, the game is even partially nonlinear. There really is nothing to lose here. Except your sanity...

So, let's begin!

A few words about the Gameplay - as you already understood, we cannot fight with the villains (In any case, there are exactly three of them here - the scissor man, Mary, and of course, a huge monster (but more on that later). So, what's in What's left for us to do in this situation?! Of course, we'll have to run away (mostly we'll have to run away from the guy with the big scissors). The riddles in this game are easy - even a child can solve them (I haven't solved everything myself, but I know for sure what's in the game). there are a lot of them). And one more important detail of the game is the psyche indicator (it is located in the lower left corner of the screen), be careful - if Jennifer panics too much (Red color around the portrait of Jennifer) then she will not do much in one way or another. situations (in this case, you don’t know where to hide from a maniac with scissors). The heroine’s mental state can be restored if you press the appropriate key (button (set) X), the heroine’s mental state is restored very slowly, so if you are not a fan of long waits, then press the button. acceleration (On the SNES emulator this is the TAB button). Perform an action using the action button (the specified Z (or B) button). We open the inventory using the Open Inventory button (set button A). We run using the buttons of the corresponding buttons (L and R).

If you want to get the only happy ending in the game, then you need to follow the clear instructions described below.

So here we go:

After the introductory cutscene, where Mary brings four orphans to the mansion, we watch a cartoon in which Mary goes somewhere. When she leaves, talk to each of your friends twice in turn. (especially with Laura). After a short conversation with them, go find Mary (exit through the left door where Mary's catfish entered). Halfway down the corridor, Jennifer will hear a frightening scream coming from the living room. Go there. And there... there was no trace of our friends. We try to climb the stairs and go to the left door. AH... bad luck - the floor collapsed, but we, thank God, didn’t fall with it. We go down and return to the same corridor from where we began to follow Mary. Having passed one more door (the left one), we go to the opposite door leading to the mini-living room. We look around - in the box that lies on the shelf, take the key to the east wing (it will come in handy). We try to watch TV, but everything is clear - it is broken. We go into the next room - there are two beds, a parrot and something else waiting for us...! We free the parrot (oh, we shouldn’t have done that) and he starts yelling “I’ll kill you!” Jennifer won't be able to stand this scream for too long, so catch the bird using the red sheet. (Ugh, finally shut up)! We look at the broken photograph (Jennifer will notice that it depicts some kind of freak!) and rummage in the bottom closet - we find perfume there (they will come in handy later (UGH... smells like Mary)). We leave the room through the right door and run left. In a few moments we will hear music. We do not pay attention to the sounds coming from the bathroom (we pass the opposite third door on the left along the corridor) and go to the left door at the end of the corridor. Ta-damm... and here is our psycho with scissors, he killed Anna (Infection)... but we won’t just leave it to him.

We run away from the maniac, we run to the door from which we came into this hall. You have two options for salvation - hide in the bathroom (you can already go there) or in the bedroom, under the bed. Having broken away from the maniac, we return to the large hall. (Where did the body of our murdered friend go?!). We go up to the second floor and go to the left doors, the first door (the top one) is locked, we go to the second - we are in some kind of chemical warehouse. We select a small cylinder. We look around and try to climb to the other side of the room. It doesn’t work out (either Jennifer is so small, or she doesn’t have the strength from shock (God knows))! We move the box to the lockers (where, by the way, Jennifer wanted to climb) and jump over to the other side.

Once on the other side, look at the wooden box - there is a black robe there (take it - it will also come in handy later). We look at all sorts of other things and leave. In the hall we go down to the first floor and step towards the left doors (the first door from the top, like on the second floor, is locked. We enter the second bottom one). We immediately go into the first opposite room - we went into the kitchen. Examine the dishes - nothing interesting! Examine the refrigerator and pick up a roll (I don’t know what it’s for, maybe after everything Jennifer has been through, she’ll finally eat normally). Look around the pantry - BAAA... what a sight! MOUNTAINS OF BEEF... AND FLIES (Damn them)!!! We run away from the flies by running out of the kitchen like a bullet. We fix Jennifer's mental health and return to the kitchen. We open the inventory and use the cylinder on the refrigerator - the smelly bastards are dead. After killing the flies, we take the Key from the refrigerator and leave the room. We return to the hall and immediately go through the upper door on the first floor. Mini-living room number two! (In the Japanese and Russian versions, these two rooms on different floors change their location, and therefore it is simply impossible to accurately guess which room is the second living room and which is the strange room)! We approach the central small table and take the small key (Under no circumstances do we touch the armor, otherwise it may cut off your head, or even worse - Laura’s body will fall out of there - And we don’t need that). We try to answer the phone call - strangely, the wire is cut off. We leave the second living room and go to the second floor, to the upper left door - we found ourselves in a strange room! We examine the wall, after which we examine the books, the table and even the chair - nothing interesting! We leave, go to the stairs and enter the opposite door. Once we find ourselves in a small corridor, we run to the very end. In the second corridor, pass the first opposite door and go to the next corridor. I pass the first opposite door, enter the second opposite door - we find ourselves in the nursery (what a mess it is here)! We examine the box near the door - there we find a key, and almost immediately we are faced with a serious problem - one of the dolls comes to life!!! We won't be able to escape from it... but we can fight back. To do this, you need to wait until the portrait in the lower left corner of the screen blinks. At this idiotic moment, you need to quickly, quickly press the movement buttons (namely B and Y). We press them until we repel the attack, otherwise it’s game over! In principle, you can do something cunning - when the doll attacks you, you must immediately run away from it the opposite side and it will break. After getting rid of the doll, correct our Jennifer’s psyche and get out of this place.

We run to the right - after passing this corridor and another one, stop and look at the hole ahead, and then take a wooden board and place it where the hole is - we made a small bridge, but we are not crossing to the other side yet. We go down the steps to the first floor and go to the first opposite room on the right - we are in the library. We read all the books in a row (required), after which we leave the library and go up to the second floor. Having passed the first statue and a strange wall, we approach the second statue - after examining it we find the idol of a demon. We go into the first opposite room on the second floor - we are in some kind of warehouse. (Here we may encounter a psycho with scissors, in order to escape from him we need to return to the room with the chemicals and move to the other side, after which, after waiting a little, we continue on our way again). Look around the warehouse and move the boxes towards you on the cart. We find a dilapidated wall, to completely destroy it, take a crowbar from the closet and hit the wall with the crowbar, it will naturally collapse. We find ourselves in some room, look at all the papers and the strange bottle that stands near the skeleton. Examine the skeleton and you will find a diary. After reading the diary, we discover a terrible discovery - it turned out that several years ago this guy/skeleton (As it turned out, this is Jennifer’s father) worked for the owner of this mansion, he was a doctor. One day, the owner of the mansion became pregnant by someone, after which she gave birth to two sons - one child turned out to be mentally retarded, and the other was a real monster (in the literal sense of the word - he even bit off his hand).

The guy wanted to kill these two, for the sake of the common good - but the hostess did not allow him, she tricked him into locking the poor guy in a secret room. Before his death (apparently from hunger or from lack of oxygen - in short), the old man wrote that the mistress was keeping her children underground... after which the note ended there. After a short dramatic moment, we leave the warehouse, go down to the first floor and march to the left. Having passed the first corridor and passed into the second, we go into the first opposite door - we are in an animal slaughterhouse. One of the crows is killing herself in her cage, so let’s free her (later she will help us a lot). To do this, inspect the table for cutting meat and find the key; use this key to unlock the cage where the crow is located. Then leave the slaughterhouse and go to the next opposite room - we entered the ceremonial room. We examine everything and everyone, after which we place the statue of the demon on the golden bowl. A secret passage opens in the center of the room. Let's go there! We go down and... oh-oh our good old Miss Mary is ahead, she doesn’t notice us and passes by the dog. Before we go after her, we must approach the dog (not too closely), after which we click on Jennifer’s catfish, and then we take out perfume from the inventory and spray ourselves all over with it. Then we put on a black robe and walk past the dog (not running). We go to the right and find another of our friends... she is mortally wounded.

Before she dies, she will tell Jennifer something about the lever in the tower. Having said goodbye to our friend, we go into a dark passage and go out into some huge hall. We move to the other side and, having reached the end of the cliff, we go down. Let's go right! Here we discover some kind of large box! We approach her and open the curtains! What is this!? OH MOM!!! LET'S RUN FROM HERE! (There was a healthy gray demon in the box. I’ll tell you terrible secret- this is one of the sons of the woman who killed Jennifer's father - a monster named Den (BBBBRRRRRR!!! And who can give birth to such freaks!?!) We run to the left until a small cliff, after which we must help Jennifer climb up - To do this, we again need to quickly press the action buttons (B and Y). Having climbed up, we accidentally drop a canister of liquid explosives - the monster dies in terrible agony, and we need to run away from here - in front of the left passage at the end, there is also the opposite passage for us to go there - we reach the end, find the elevator, call it and go inside . ATTENTION: Now two endings await us - not very good and good. I’ll tell you about the “not very” ending: upon entering the elevator, we go up not to the third floor, but to the second - Having passed the corridor, we find ourselves in the second corridor - Mary nails our way. In Anger, she says that her son died because of Jennifer (Here’s another terrible secret - Mary is the very mother who gave birth to the children of freaks and she also killed Jennifer’s father. As for the bitch, she won’t get away with it so easily !) When Mary approaches you too quickly and tries to stab you with a knife, try to fight back - having fought off the attack, we run to the door that Mary was guarding. Entering there, Mary screams for Bobby to help her - Bobby is the same killer with scissors (he is also Mary’s first son). Having reached the end of the corridor, we immediately run into one of the large cracks - going outside to the balcony, run to the stairs leading to the clock tower. Mary will try to throw you down, but if you fight her off, she will fall down - justice has been done... but not quite. As soon as we get into the tower, press two levers on the remote control. The sound of the bells will deafen the psycho with knives so much that he will fall down and break. That's it... we won, it's just a pity that all of our people are dead.

Well, if you want one of your friends to survive, then do everything differently:

Once in the elevator, press the button for the third floor (tower with scratches). As soon as you arrive on the third floor, a psycho with knives will immediately appear from the elevator shaft, run away from him! Run to the stairs. Having gone up there, Jennifer will turn on the levers and again the sound of the bells will “throw” the abnormal Bobby down. Jennifer will see her friend Laura alive, but she will not be able to wake her up - Mary will come out of the corner and begin to strangle our Jennifer. If you fight off Mary again, a flock of crows will fly to your aid and, tearing Mary’s head with their beaks, they will throw her down. That's it, we won and saved Laura...

Clock Tower

Release date: 1995

Platforms: SNES, PlayStation, PC

It all started out quite calmly: Jennifer Simpson, an orphan, was taken into care married couple wealthy hermits who lived in the “Clock Tower” mansion, named after the main attraction - a huge clock tower. Together with her friends from the orphanage, Jennifer is sent to the mansion, where they wait together to meet their guardian. The stepmother goes to call him, but for some reason does not return for too long. As soon as the heroine goes to check what happened, terrible screams are heard from the living room. The girls disappear somewhere, but Jennifer meets a new hero - a man with huge garden shears begins to chase the poor thing around the house.

The heroine needs to rescue her friends, get out of this hell and try to stay alive. The game has beautiful two-dimensional graphics, the girl is controlled using the cursor, like in quests. But unlike quests, quite often there is no time to solve riddles - a maniac with scissors jumps out like a jack-in-the-box in completely unexpected places. He not only hides and waits for our appearance, but also simply walks around the house, it is completely unclear where you will meet him next time.

The game has an emotional state scale - from green to red. Panicking, Jennifer begins to stumble while running, and at the same time, the likelihood that she will not be able to dodge the deadly embrace of a maniac increases sharply. In a state of relative peace, you can hide from the killer, and sometimes knock him down, and then... run away and hide again. Now in all horror games you can fight back your opponents, but in Clock Tower there are no ways to kill a maniac. Absolute defenselessness, constant fear, which is pumped up by appropriate music and unpleasant discoveries - in the house there are corpses of victims of a man with scissors, strange rooms with crowds of mannequins or stuffed animals.

This is a classic horror, almost like a movie, only we are directly involved in it. Some rooms are locked and you need to look for the keys, but many have immediate access - such freedom is seriously disorienting. Where to go, what to do? It's up to the player to decide; they need to survive by any means necessary. One way or another, the secret of everything that is happening lies in that very clock tower, it will become the place where answers to questions will be given.

And there are several answers. A lot of. The game has as many as 9 possible endings - from the most deplorable to more or less happy. How this terrible story ends depends on your actions throughout the game. The game is unique both for its time and now - there are virtually no projects where you can only hide from the enemy and run away from him. And 9 endings – this is rare. Thanks to these techniques, the game really scares, makes you wait for danger even where there is no trace of it. The game was released in 1995 for the SNES console, two years later there was an adaptation for the PlayStation called Clock Tower The First Fear, and in 1999 a computer version was released - all this did not go beyond Japan. But this is official, fans have translated it into English and even Russian.

They say that Clock Tower is very similar to the Italian horror film Phenomena, which is known in the West as Creepers, and in our country as Phenomena. One name of the main character, some plot moves are similar to each other. All this is because the game was made by the development team that originally worked on game version this film.

Clock Tower

Release date: 1996

Platform: PlayStation

A year after the tragic events from the first part, Jennifer is under the careful supervision of a psychologist who is trying to find out what really happened in the mansion.

Suddenly the man with the scissors reappears in the girl’s life, with the same purpose. Who is this maniac or his imitator? This is what you need to find out and, as usual, survive.

Now the action takes place not in one place, but throughout the city: to solve the puzzle you need to visit completely different places, from a huge psychological clinic to a small two-story house, where hiding from a maniac is even more difficult. In addition to Jennifer, other game characters appeared. The game has acquired a third dimension, now the graphics are certainly not impressive, but the atmosphere of the game compensates for this. There are just a lot of options for developing the situation. For example, when running away from a killer, you can hide in a toilet stall: disturbing music is replaced by the sounds of the heroine’s heartbeat. The maniac can find you. It might pass by. Or you hear that he has left, open the stall door and see your pursuer... the last thing you see will be huge bloody scissors. Another scene: you are leaving in an elevator, with a killer on your heels. While the elevator takes a long time to leave, as luck would have it, he can run to it and still be late, have time to overtake the girl, or insert scissors between the doors that are already closing... Whether he can open them is a matter of chance. Imagine that you entered a room that was empty a couple of minutes ago, and now there is someone sitting in a rocking chair. Should I check who it is? Interesting, but dangerous. The choice is again yours. And so - everywhere and in everything. Replaying each new time, it is impossible to say what will happen next, where the mortal danger will come from, when and how.

This time the game has 10 endings, five each for two active characters. Confusion began with this part of the series: in Japan the game was released under the name Clock Tower 2, in the rest of the world it was simply Clock Tower. The game was appreciated all over the world, there was still no alternative: an incredible degree of immersion, when every little thing is more frightening than the most disgusting monsters from other horror games. It is worth saying that this is one of the most successful parts of the series, a real detective story and a horror film at the same time, where you are in the leading role.

Clock Tower: Ghost Head (Clock Tower 2: The Struggle Within)

Release date: 1998

Platform: PlayStation

This part is the weakest in the series. The developers essentially made a spin-off that has almost nothing in common with the original Clock Tower. Therefore, in Japan the game did not have the number 2 in the title, although in the rest of the world it is known precisely as the second part.

Alyssa Hale suffers from multiple personality disorder, which begins to manifest itself during stressful situations. Alyssa is usually a shy girl, but sometimes the personality of her cruel twin brother named Bates awakens. So, Alyssa returns home, where her caring uncle and aunt should be waiting for her, but instead the girl discovers a house full of severed parts from mannequins, covered in yellow blood. Very strange, even for a Japanese-made game, isn't it?

Instead of one maniac-persecutor, there is a whole group of aggressors: animated mannequins with kitchen knives, the dead, and the main attraction - a man hiding his face under a red devil mask, with a huge meter-long knife at the ready. The poor heroine can suddenly turn (psychologically, of course) into a cold-blooded guy, either under the pressure of all these reptiles, or by removing the amulet that holds back the second “I” inside the girl. One way or another, you will have to switch between these two characters in one body - a riddle that Alyssa cannot solve is easily solved by looking at her through the eyes of her twin brother. The game has 13 endings, which is probably a world record, not only for this series, but for the entire gaming industry in general.

Both fans of the series were dissatisfied with the game, because the already legendary man with huge scissors disappeared from it, and critics, because... new format the narrative was incomprehensible to many Europeans. If the first Clock Tower was very similar in presentation to Western horror films, then this slasher film is not even close - there is too much mysticism, sometimes unjustified. The very system of switching between personalities forced me to go around the same places 2 times, because it was completely unclear what and in front of whom I needed to do to advance along the storyline.

Clock Tower 3

Release date: 2002

Platform: PlayStation 2

After the failure of Ghost Head, the development studio Human Entertainment, which lived solely on the Clock Tower series, disbanded and became history. Capcom bought the rights to the trademark in order to become a monopolist in the horror market. Many feared that new part will turn from a live-action horror film into a monster shooter, and partly for good reason they thought so. The third part did not become a shooter, but it changed very seriously compared to the previous ones.

Alyssa (the other one, named Hamilton), a simple schoolgirl, receives a letter from her mother, who forbids her to appear at home until the girl turns 15 years old. Frightened by her mother's strange behavior, Alyssa arrives at the house, from where she finds herself in a parallel world where terrible things happen.

Clock Tower 3 is a wild mixture of funny and scary. The heroine turns out to be a warrior of light, so when, after hiding with monsters, dead people, maniacs and ghosts, she meets the boss, she turns into someone like Sailor Moon from a girly Japanese cartoon. A bow of light for killing the main bastards, holy water that temporarily stops monsters - a schoolgirl's delusional ammunition. Having dealt with the next boss, Alyssa returns home, and from there she again jumps into a parallel universe - and so on several times. In this parade of madness, the game is extremely cruel: here innocent people are drowned in a barrel of acid, their heads are smashed with a huge sledgehammer and many other terrible things are done.

Serious work was done on the game, finally everything turned into a full-fledged three-dimensional dimension, as in Silent Hill or Resident Evil, quest controls with a cursor were replaced with those familiar to console projects. A panic scale has appeared: if previously for the heroine to die she had to fall under the enemy’s hand once, now it is possible to survive after meeting with maniacs. The more the girl panics, the higher the likelihood of receiving a mortal wound; Alyssa stumbles more often, and sometimes even falls, running away from her pursuer.

One way or another, the third part had nothing to do with the Clock Tower series; it was a separate product that found its audience and even gathered many fans around it - mainly those who had not seen the first parts of the game.

Bonus: fan video, which perfectly shows what kind of bloody masquerade is going on there.

Haunting Ground (Demento in Japan)

Release date: 2005

Platform: PlayStation 2

It would seem that this game has nothing in common with the Clock Tower series. In fact, Haunting Ground is much closer to the original than the third part. The game was made by Capcom's internal studio, which did not stop us from returning to the traditions of Clock Tower: Fiona Bally regains consciousness and finds herself in a cage, which is located in some basement, drenched in blood. The last thing the girl remembers is a car accident. By a lucky chance, the cage turns out to be open, the heroine comes out of the basement - it is only a tiny part of the huge castle, where Fiona for some reason ended up after the accident.

This is where problems arise: the girl begins to be pursued by a thug with the intelligence of a child, who mistakes Fiona for a large doll. This man is also a butcher and gardener, which automatically means giant scissors in his hands and a penchant for violence. In addition to this type, there is a whole company of strange people - a girl who moves like a robot and does not express any emotions, the owner of the castle also wants something from poor Fiona. Unexpected help comes to the girl - the shepherd Huey.

This friend of man will be a strong support throughout the game. The dog can rush at its pursuers and delay them while Fiona finds a place to hide, and perform various commands that will help in solving puzzles. On the other hand, Huey requires constant attention; the dog needs to be treated, praised or, on the contrary, scolded, otherwise it will stop obeying. If you overdo it, Huey may even attack his new owner.

According to the canons of Clock Tower, the game has 4 different endings, which depend on behavior throughout the story. Fiona can also panic: the screen takes on a psychedelic coloring, and the girl begins to run non-stop - you need to manage to guide her so as not to crash into walls or the environment. It is Haunting Ground that should be considered the final series of Clock Tower, because it combines all the ideas from the previous parts, adds modern graphics and an exciting plot.

Clock Tower is a unique series. No other game has come so close to horror cinema, because in most projects it all comes down to shooting monsters. Clock Tower also offers new experience, when you have to really be afraid, constantly expect something terrible and unexpected. And there is practically no way to fight this evil; the most important technique here is to run away and hide from the next maniac. It is precisely this pattern of events in the game that allows you to build up fear in the same way as in the movies. This is a real horror movie that scares not with a monster suddenly jumping out from around the corner, but with the anticipation of its appearance.
