JIN, a card game popular in the United States.
Two are playing; each receives 10 cards face down, the dealer deals one card at a time, starting with the non-dealer. The rest of the deck, lying face down, forms a draw, the top card of which is turned over and placed next to the deck, forming a discard. The non-dealer can take the face up card or refuse it; if he refuses, the same rights are transferred to the dealer. If both refuse the first card, the non-dealer takes the top buy-in card. Next, the players take turns taking either the top discard card or the top buy-in card, then placing one card from their hand into the discard face up. The goal of the game is to collect either the sequences ("Sequences") of three or more cards of the same suit, or sets of three or more cards of the same name. After drawing a card, the player can "hit" ( exit) if his unpaired cards ( excluding one discarded) are 10 or less. Pictures are worth 10 points, ace - 1, the rest - face value. After knocking, the player presents his 10 cards, laid out in combinations; the unpaired cards are laid down separately, then the eleventh card is discarded. If all of his cards are combined, he is a gin. The knocking opponent can place any of his unpaired cards on the knocking combination, thereby reducing his score. If the knocker has fewer unpaired cards, he wins the difference. If the opponent has an equal or less number of unpaired cards, he "cuts" the knocker and gets the difference ( if any) plus a prize of 25 points. The knocker cannot be cut if he is a "gin"; he receives, in addition to the sum of the points of the opponent's unpaired cards, a prize of 25 points.
The first to score 100 points wins the game and receives a prize of 100 points. Each player then adds 25 points to their score for each change they win, called a "box". If the loser does not have a score, the game is called a "lockout" or "schneider" and the winner's total points are doubled.
