How to play together in the cave. “The Cave” is a quest for three. Walkthrough Cube escape The Cave Submarine

The beginning of 2013 was marked by the release of a number of interesting and exciting games not only for PC, but also for other gaming platforms. Sega, together with Double Fine Productions, the developer, presented a gift to all fans of quests, adventure games and puzzles in the form of the game “The Cave”.

“Cave” is the translation of the name of the game “The Cave”, released on January 24, 2013 on six gaming platforms, which is even adapted for Linux and satisfies the tastes of any connoisseur of good quests.

The only downside of the game is the fact that it is paid. The price of the game “The Cave” on Steam is only 249 rubles and, you see, for good quests that are not released very often, this is not a lot of money. Be sure that once you spend your money, you won’t even remember it after spending more than one day on an exciting journey inside a mysterious cave full of secrets.

Detailed review of the quest “The Cave” 2013, only on the website

For those who will make a purchase on Steam for the first time, we will describe the purchase process.

The game “The Cave” is new from the beginning of 2013 and, accordingly, it can be easily found on Steam on the main window. If you have difficulty finding a game, you can get to it through the menu “Games” - “Adventure Games” - “The Cave”.

Game "The Cave". You can buy it for only 249 rubles on Steam.

Before you do, read our review of the game, or at least watch a video that demonstrates the gameplay of the game.

To purchase The Cave, or any other game on Steam, click “Add to Cart.” After that, select “Buy for yourself” and select a payment method. The Steam app is very convenient when making purchases. You can easily purchase the game you like by choosing a payment method, of which there are plenty on Steam.

The subsequent window requires you to confirm the item being paid and the amount. Be sure to check the “I accept the terms of the Steam Subscriber Agreement” checkbox, because only after this the “Run” button will be available.

In our case, the game was paid for with Yandex money, and the process of crediting money took 15-20 minutes, after which a letter confirming the purchase was sent to the registration mailbox.

That's probably all, the process of buying a game on Steam seemed to us not as difficult as it seems at first glance.

The standard game installation process begins with the “Library” section, where you just need to click “Install”. The game takes up just over 1.1GB of free disk space.

Installing the game "The Cave".

The game, unfortunately, is not localized, and you will have to play on English language. Since the game is new, I think all searches for a crack for “The Cave” will not be successful. However, looking ahead, I would like to reassure everyone who is used to playing in their native Russian language: you can easily play without knowledge of English.

In the game, only lyrical digressions and voices in narrating cutscenes are voiced. The heroes who will have to be controlled will not utter a word, but will still carry out all your actions, and you can distinguish a key or a torch from dynamite even without knowledge of English.

It's time to launch the game! A narrative that cannot be missed, you will have to listen to the end, and only then will we have access to the choice of heroes. In the game you will have to play with three heroes at once, having previously selected them from the seven available.

Click to enlarge! Consider the characters in “The Cave.”

Our choice fell on a lady in a dressing gown, a stupid collective farmer and a knight. Each of them, like the remaining four, have skills unique to them. For example, a knight can smoothly fall from a great height, a collective farmer can breathe under water, etc.

It’s a shame that you can’t assign names to the characters, because we always assign the name “GameAdvisor”, showing our readers that we play the game ourselves, and do not copy text from other resources.

The choice of heroes was spontaneous, you may choose others, but be that as it may, the game will be completed in one way or another.

The movements of our heroes are very funny; just one knight in clanking armor will make anyone smile.

The graphics, of course, are not top ten, and the range of colors is a bit dark, although they fully correspond to the surroundings of the cave. By and large, you forget about the shortcomings of the graphics when you try to solve puzzles, of which there are plenty in the game.

Dark colors and shades in the game “The Cave”.

Although the game has 3D graphics, it still looks more like a 2D quest platformer.

What I really liked about The Cave was that all the characters completed quests. Yes, you can do something with just one hero, but often completing tasks comes down to the joint work of all the heroes. A very interesting and innovative solution.

While playing “The Cave”, we caught ourselves thinking that the gameplay was somewhat reminiscent of the game “Big Planet” for PS3. Perhaps, after playing it, you will also agree with the idea that “The Cave” is an analogue of “Big Planet”, only for PC.

The action of the game, as mentioned above, takes place in a cave, but our heroes sometimes have to get out into the world and solve riddles in the castle, cellars, towers, etc.

The puzzles in The Cave are quite adequate and can be explained logically. For example, water dripping onto an electrical fuse is easily collected in a bucket, or wall collapses are removed with dynamite ignited from a torch.

The dragon that guards gold coin(token) that opens the door can be passed by approaching it from both sides. One of the heroes must distract the fire-breathing dragon at the cost of his life, allowing his partner to take the coin.

The heroes of the game can die indefinitely, this does not harm the future passage, because they are immediately resurrected in almost the same place in the labyrinth.

The dragon from "The Cave" kills one of the heroes.

The further our heroes go, the more complex the labyrinths and riddles become. It is very convenient to control the heroes, even if they are on opposite edges of the maze. Each of them is assigned a key on the keyboard for quick switching: 1, 2 or 3.

Quick and convenient switching between heroes in the game will be very useful, because sometimes moments decide the correctness and accuracy of completing a task.

The heroes will also have water obstacles that they can easily cross. But there are labyrinths where you need to dive and, while holding your breath, overcome ornate labyrinths. This is not given to everyone, and here you need to think a little, although we have already talked about how to do it.

The game is interesting to play; there are no crazy quests in it that can only be completed by looking at the hint. However, not everyone thinks alike, and some will find certain quests difficult. For you, we are preparing for publication a walkthrough of the game “The Cave”, which will help you complete this exciting game in detail with screenshots.

A unique skill of a collective farmer is that he can not breathe under water for a long time.

We can talk about the game “The Cave” for a long time, but we are sure that all fans of adventure games where you need to think and not run and shoot everyone will like it.

“The Cave” is a choice for thinking players, players with an analytical mind.

"Cave" - very long quest, having spent almost 3 hours playing the game, we managed to open only the first achievement, of which there are 26 in the game. I am sure that if you play “The Cave” without much fanaticism with breaks for sleep, then a month of puzzles is guaranteed for you.

Having completed the game with the chosen heroes, you will certainly want to complete it with others, because the unique capabilities of each change the passage of quests exactly the opposite. The developers managed to retain players after the first playthrough of the game. By alternating heroes, there can be several of these passages and each will be different from the previous ones.

The Cave toy is often compared to the famous Trine and The Lost Vikings. However, this is very approximate and most likely erroneous. This is a quest wrapped up in the skin of a typical platformer - there is no action here, and no combat abilities. It’s just a quest - that’s all, there’s nothing to even compare with Trine, the dynamics are not the same, and the gameplay is very different. There is a little more in common with Vikings, there are also three heroes who need to be controlled - it doesn’t matter whether you play alone or in a group of friends. But the Vikings have some skills, but they are needed there, and in The Cave, in fact, there are no enemies, there is no one to fight with.

The only pity is that the main disadvantage of the toy is the cooperative mode. No interaction, just pulling levers. Characters without tactical moves just wander around the locations. For the Vikings, one covers with a shield, another kills, a third hooks on obstacles, and the like. Here, lonely heroes simply wander around the cave together. That is, the impression is exactly the same if a friend lies on the couch and stares as you progress through the game. And there is no split screen when you need to separate characters. If one steps aside, the second will stand stupidly and wait. It turns out that half the time is played by one person, half by another user. Okay, such mechanics worked fine in Heroes, but here such gameplay makes you bored and alternately yawning at each other.

The plot is not bad, the design of each level is also good, the developers did their best, the monologues are not bad. The locations are well-developed, each individual section corresponds to the most popular and excellent games in terms of design. But with each transition from section to section, there are still locations that are constantly repeated. If you remember that there are only seven characters in the toy, then it is clear that to fully understand it you will have to go through the entire game at least three times. At first you may like the levels, but as you repeat they will become boring and burdensome. Since you already know all the solutions to problems and puzzles, there is no point in going through them again, and no one will offer anything new. It would be nice if they installed a generator of random “branches” or at least simply diversified the transitions to personal areas. They could at least put different riddles for each playthrough.

Okay, about the minuses, we can move on to the positive aspects. The story about the cave itself is interesting and surprising. The most good part in the game there are locations specific for each character, which tell about the history of each, the characters are fully revealed. All the stories are not only funny, but also make you think about how to play this or that hero. Everyone who plays will draw their own conclusions and get their own ending. There is also humor in the toy, not stupid, but quite witty. The voice acting is top notch, the actors did their best. Because of all this, there are primarily disadvantages gameplay You may not even notice it, but having noticed it, you may ignore it and not pay attention. Each character solves problems according to their own abilities, so you simply run between locations automatically in order to quickly begin new tasks.

In the end, what do we have? A normal platform quest, which is quite rare in today's gaming industry. Fans of Viking mechanics will be pleased, the game is very similar. It will be interesting during the first playthrough, but then repetitions of locations and riddles, as well as the fussy running around of three characters, will be tiring. The toy has low replay value, and this affects its popularity, especially for co-op. But all the same, The Cave will give you pleasure, it’s just a pity that it will simply be impossible to extend it with repeats.

So, let's start the game. The camera smoothly lowers, select one of 7 characters. Let's start with the knight. We run to the left and break the gate, then we run to the left. Now take the time traveler and the farmer with you. We run further as a knight and jump down into the cave. Then we go down with two chosen heroes (the time traveler and the peasant). As a traveler, we move the box from the right corner of the cave to the left, then we climb onto the ledge, now we drag the rest of the heroes onto the ledge too.

We run onto a wooden bridge and the three of us fall down. Next, we run to the right and talk to the crying guy. Next he will give us the key. We take him as a peasant, open the door and jump down, then go down the rope and run to the right. Then we go down the stairs. There will be a small broken mill on the right, a lever on the left. We go down even lower, where there are food machines, and use the lever to the right of them, change the hero and run to the lever opposite the mill, it will open the passage, and with the third hero we run to the left to the pile of bones and the monster. Don't come close, it can kill you. We go upstairs and activate the sign drawn on the board.

We go right and use the old well. Now we climb to the left and use the car, but nothing will work. We switch to the second hero (any) and run to the bell (near the pile of bones) and use it. We activate the machine with the top one. Next, with the help of the knight, we break the lever of the well on the right, pick it up as a peasant and go to the damaged well, insert it, start twisting it and it will explode. To the right of the well is a sign to which we lead the knight. Let's activate it. Next, we go upstairs as a peasant, pick up a bottle of water from the car and go downstairs and run to the right and insert it into the generator next to the food machines and take a hot dog from the machine. Next, we take the hot dog with us and throw it on the pike to the right of the monster in the pile of bones.

Now we go to the food machine, again take out a bottle of water and take it to the generator upstairs, from the machine where we took it from. Now below, as a peasant, we activate the bell and quickly switch to the time traveler and turn on the machine and catch the creature. Then we run to the left as a peasant and run up to the bear sign and all the heroes run calmly to the left.

We jump down like a peasant. We swim to the right, climb up and go down the stairs down and even lower. We take dynamite, get up, light it at the candle on the right and quickly place it on the wooden beams on the right. After the explosion we take the reward. Next, we run to the right and stand on the button that opens the door. Then we take the time traveler and go to this door open door, we pass and go up the stairs and take the skull from the treasury. Now take the elevator on the right, go up, then up the stairs even higher, then up to the left again and return the skull to the man, and also return to him the reward found by the peasant. Now we switch to the knight, run to the right, dive and swim to the right and pick up the guitar and return to the guy, giving him the reward. He will open the door and we can run to the right and don’t forget to read the inscription on the sign.

We run to the right and jump into the gorge down into the water. Now we stand on a wooden block and go down with it, stand as any hero except a knight. We switch the hero and go to the left, where we activate the knight sign. Now we go down with it and drag it to the left, now we go down as a knight, run to the right and stand on the button. Now we take the peasant, go downstairs and also stand on the button, now we stand on the button as a traveler and open the door and go downstairs, then to the right and even lower. We run through the gorge with fire, or rather fall into it, using the knight’s ability - invulnerability. We run to the right to the king and communicate with him. Then we run to the right, jump onto the rope and open the gate, then along the second we climb up and climb even higher, then to the left and even higher and we will rise to the princess’s balcony. Let's talk to her.

Next we go down and run to the right, then down and left and down again. A dragon sleeps here. Don't come close, otherwise he will kill us. There is a bowl not far from the dragon. Next, take the time traveler and run to the left of the wooden sign with skulls. At the end of the path we find a sign of a bear - a peasant. Then we run to the right of the sign and go down as a traveler. At the bottom we activate the knight sign and go upstairs. There will be a shooter on the right side of the balcony, don't touch him. We need to get the key in the room above. To do this, we go upstairs. And we use the ability to move through walls. Then we go up into the elevator to the right of the clock, and as a peasant we run to the clock and turn the hand. We quickly switch to the time traveler and jump into the desired room, where our sign is.

We continue to play through the game. So, we run to the right and jump down as a peasant, then down to the wizard with the pie, use it 2 times. Then we go to the button by the roulette, stand on it and try the roulette again and win the golden ticket, go down and go right to the cart and insert it. Then go up and to the left and jump down. Here's the color wheel. We'll come back to it later. We take the wrench from the knight and run down to the gate with the duck, open it. We jump into the water and swim to the right. We swim out and run to the right, there will be a sign of a peasant. Then we go up to the left and to the right.

We run further to the Ferris wheel and jump into the cradle and wait until we can jump to the knight’s sign. Then we jump again and wait until we have made almost a circle and there will be a bottle of water at the top, but we cannot take it yet. We go to the bottle to the right of the ring as a knight, and as a peasant we go to the generator on wheels. We turn off the generator and take the bottle with the knight and insert it to the left of the Ferris ring, take the sledgehammer below. Then we go down to the game with measuring the force of the hammer blow and hitting it. We get the ticket and insert it to the right into the cart with the bear. Then we go to the ring again, turn off the generator, take a bottle of water on the left and move it to the right and insert it a little lower, to the right of the attraction with the magic ball.

He begins to tell us fortunes. Remember the color of his ball at the moment when he begins to tell us our fate. It is this color that we will select as the selected one from the color wheel, then we pull the lever, get a ticket and run to the bear, insert the ticket and get a bear. Next, we carry it to the right to the exit, and wait6 until the scale is filled. Then we insert the last ticket back into the cart, take a lighter and set fire to the exit, then wait for the hay to burn and run to the right. So, let's continue the adventure with our friends. We activate the lever, then jump onto the stone and from it to the right. Then we go down and run to the left until we meet a grumbling old man. He will start throwing various objects, pick them up and move them to the right so as not to die from dynamite. We take a bucket, fill it with water at the top and catch grandfather’s dynamite. Next, take the dynamite, set it on fire and put it on the pile of stones at the top right. Then go right and activate the knight symbol.

Next, the second hero again fills the bucket with water and catches the dynamite. We set it on fire and place it near the pile of stones on the left. There will be a symbol for a time traveler here. We go to the knight as a traveler. We move the cart to the left from its left side and hold it, change to a knight and activate the device that produces gold, then send it to the old man. Then we go to the left, where there was a symbol for the traveler7 We first lift the trolley onto the right platform, and then with two heroes we stand on the platform on the left and with one we drag the trolley to the central platform, which does not move. Now we place two heroes on the platform on the right and with one we drag the cart from the left to the old man. Then we find the third trolley and send it to the old man. You will have to sit in the third one yourself, so that during the journey you will choose the path on the left and the bridge will have to collapse.

So, we go to the right as a traveler and approach the engine. We go to the time machine to the left and use it. We move into the prehistoric past. We run to the right and go down and to the left. Here is prehistoric man. We help him roll the huge stone to the right until it falls. A huge dinosaur will sleep a little lower. Then we climb up and on the left there will be a stone that needs to be placed under a trickle of water on the right and, switching to the player in the future, we go with one of the heroes to the drawn dinosaur with a button.

We switch to the hero in the past and return to the other two, where a dinosaur is drawn. We activate the panel and now we all smell like this dinosaur. Now one of the heroes takes a shovel and returns to the past (not to be confused with the present) and goes to the dinosaur. Make sure the smell doesn't evaporate. He will fall in love with us and run after us to the left edge, and you, the second hero from above, drop a stone on his head. Sorry for the dinosaur. Next, watch the video for the walkthrough.

We take the recording player with the film and take it to the crystal monster and throw it next to it, and we go around it so that it throws us with its mouth, and then we jump on it with the player and it will hit us with its tail and we will record its roar. Then we go upstairs to the girl with the machine gun, throw the player nearby and turn it on, the guard at the machine will run away. We take a hot dog from it and go to the monster. We lure him onto the fragile bridge with the scent and he will fall down. We jump as heroes into the resulting gorge. We run to the right and lower the boat into the water. We jump onto it with the heroes and swim to the right. We sail to the mad old man. Next, we run to the right, pick up the phone and go to the old man. We listen to his chatter.

On the right we push the blue box down. Then we jump onto the ledge on the right and run to the right and go down. Next, take the box and push it to the left, here on the right take the yellow tin box. Run to the left and place the pipe in the missing area, right at the base of the cave. Then we go down below, activate the red valve and the water will rise to a sufficient level so that we can swim across to the left. Then we return to grandfather and on the right side of the ledge, take another part of the pipe with four exits and insert it in the cave into the missing place. Also watch the video for the ending of the game.

The Cave begins with seven archetypal heroes - a knight, a scientist, an adventurer, a Tibetan monk, a time traveler, little twins and the village idiot - descending into the Cave, according to legend, capable of granting wishes. Everyone has their own: one dreams of untold wealth, another seeks fame, and the third sleeps and sees himself in the chair of a more successful colleague. But how far are they willing to go in indulging their vices?

The twins campaign is perhaps one of the darkest.

In an attempt to answer this question The Cave sends the player on a dark quest I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream based on the novel by American science fiction writer Harlan Ellison, published back in 1996. In it, an evil supercomputer destroyed humanity, leaving only five people alive. Each had some fatal flaw in his character, and a ruthless artificial intelligence set up brutal tests in which he tested people's ability to resist their deepest desires.

If you found a reference to Monkey Island in this screenshot, then skipping The Cave is doubly not recommended.

The same thing happens in The Cave, only Double Fine the Cave itself plays the role of an evil computer. Very quickly, in a deep male voice (yes, this is a talking Cave), she confronts the heroes with a fact: sometimes, to get what you want, you have to walk over corpses. Literally. And you go because there is no other way to get out. And even if you poison the parents of twin children and “accidentally” feed the princess to the dragon, in the end you will have long-awaited fame, money or freedom. This is their real price. “Beware of your desires,” as the ancients said.

Caveman

Otherwise, The Cave looks exactly as a game designed by Ron Gilbert and Tim Shafer, who also participated in the development, should look like. This is a stylish, witty and sometimes very funny project. For example, the first item you find in the Cave will be - what would you think? - of course it’s a crowbar! After all good game simply must start with a scrap. And the girl with whom one of the heroes falls in love is called none other than the Stunning Two-Legged Woman. In fact, retelling local jokes is a thankless task, because most of them need to be seen: a significant portion of the humor lies in the animation.

It's really difficult to choose characters for the first time - they're all very funny.

Although there are seven characters, only three can be controlled at a time. Having made a choice at the very beginning, you will remain with it until the end credits. However, the composition of the company will not at all affect the style of play: despite the fact that each hero has his own unique ability (the knight is invulnerable, the redneck can breathe under water, the scientist hacks computers, etc.), it will only be needed at a special level, entirely dedicated to one character.

This is where one of the main shortcomings of the game lies. It turns out that in order to see all the locations, you will have to go through The Cave at least three times, and given the two possible endings, even six. This is partly offset by the short duration of the game, but the trouble is that, in addition to unique levels, there are also so-called “public” ones, in which all the characters are absolutely interchangeable. They were designed to unite seven stories into a common narrative and predictably turned out to be the most boring. Naturally, you will have to visit these locations every time you play through.

There are also some complaints game mechanics. For a 2D platformer in the spirit Trine And The Lost Vikings in fact, the good old point & click is hidden, only increased in scale. We have a huge level with many elements (mechanisms) that need to be connected (launched) in the right order in order to move on. What to screw to what is usually immediately clear, and if not, it can be found out quite quickly at random. For example, if we have a banana, then somewhere there will definitely be a monkey, and for every broken generator there is one working one, from which you just need to remove the battery. In fact, the player is only required to carefully study the level.

You understand that we weren’t joking about a nuclear missile, right?

This seemingly simple activity is complicated by the need to run long distances. There is almost no force here to carefully jump on complex platforms, and you can’t die (the game resurrects the hero just a couple of meters from the place of death), but this only makes the monotonous climbing of huge levels more boring. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that The Cave has no inventory and a character can only carry one thing at a time. Three heroes - three items. And if you suddenly need to bring in slot machine five tickets, then running back and forth cannot be avoided.

But the strangest aspect of The Cave is the co-op. In fact, there is a regime, but there is no meaning in it. Judge for yourself: you can only play with two people on one computer, there is no split-screen, and given the multi-story locations, it’s impossible for three of you to always be on the same screen. As a result, all joint puzzles have to be solved in exactly the same way as in the single-player campaign - by taking turns placing the characters in their places. And this is the last thing worth getting together with friends on a Saturday evening for.

Where The Cave really shines is in the thoughtfulness of the levels that are unique to each character. In the Cave there was a place for a rural fair, a historical museum (which will be visited in different time continuums), and even a nuclear missile launch center. But what is especially important is that Gilbert and Shafer once again managed to brilliantly ridicule human stupidity, making fun of not only the drawn characters, but also the players themselves, most of whom, judging by the reviews on the forums, never learned their lesson from the game.

"Fine"

Did you wait?

Cumbersome, not always understanding what to do with its own mechanics, but no less exciting game from some of the most talented people in the industry.

There are only two moments where Double Fine worked unambiguously well - this is a selection of colorful characters and a picture that is similar in spirit and style to the animated series Gravity Falls, which has moved to the third day. And from the point of view of hipster children and other Soul connoisseurs, all this fuss in the talking maze is, of course, not a quest, but a crooked platformer with dynamite and buckets. Any talk about some kind of genre value, and especially the return of Ron Gilbert as the creator of smart and at the same time funny games, according to such people, is wild and absurd.

On the other hand, The Cave seems to have been made for those who grew up watching Maniac Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island, and now doesn’t have time to sort through inventory and use dogs on candelabra. Such a compact format can be the key to a good life for all future quests for several reasons. Hard, classic point & click adventures are now needed only by connoisseurs of antiquity and regulars of torrent trackers. To live and flourish, the genre needs to adapt to the pace of modern life, to the players of the new wave, and quests with non-straining puzzles, a short plot, made at the intersection of genres, may turn out to be what is needed. At least such games raise fewer questions than an interactive movie with the dead.

Maxim Ivanov

The Cave is almost a playful interpretation of The Decameron. Before us is a kaleidoscope of instructive stories that develop independently of each other. This is both the main find and the main drawback of the game. The plot resembles a set of hilarious, but in no way connected sketches. Shafer and Gilbert borrowed Burton's general style and adopted some of his techniques: deliberate grotesquery, signature black humor, and narrative tone. The scene with the eaten princess was especially successful. The creators approached the matter with imagination and thoroughly went through the worn-out stereotypes. For example, Excalibur will have to be obtained using a stick of dynamite. And listening to the mocking remarks of the Cave is a completely separate pleasure. However, the new Double Fine project still lacks a director's hand. In the end you ask yourself: why exactly were they showing us all this? What did the main characters learn for themselves? And what was the purpose of the Cave - to reproach, to rub one’s nose into human imperfection?

The game mechanics are reminiscent of Trine, but there is much, much more tiring running around. Puzzles, on the other hand, are almost not annoying. Moreover, most of them have several solutions at once. As a result, The Cave is a rather ambitious game, which is dragged down by not very successful implementation. You can't call her bad, but you can't call her good either.

Anton Mukhataev

It's a shame that the new release from Double Fine is no longer seen as a big deal. IN the beginning of the Cave appears to be a very different game: behind the clunky, comedic co-op platformer is a modern take on Gilbert's old games, Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island, in 2013 parlance. Almost devoid of impressive moments, the game promises more than it actually delivers. There are many worthy finds in it - voice-over with sarcastic comments, a minimum of hints, logically constructed puzzles. Without leading the player by the hand and without taking him for an idiot, The Cave still rarely works as it should: it makes you smile, but not laugh, think, but not strain your head.

Sometimes it feels like it's trying too much without focusing on making sure each character and mechanic is fully explored. A much better approach would be to reduce the number of characters, give each of them more abilities, and see what happens. It also turns out that The Cave only hints at how good it could be. Gilbert's idea of telling simple human stories is understandable, but does the game itself have to suffer because of it?
