The best MMORPG with good graphics. The most popular online games The best MMORPGs in the world

Over the past two decades, many top and monotonous MMORPGs have been released. I decided to surf the Internet and collect best projects, which will definitely delight you with cool graphics. You can already play some of them, both in the West and in Russia, but the developers continue to work on others.

Tree of Savior

Before creating the project, the developers of Tree of Savior were inspired by the cult MMO. In fact, the guys improved the graphics and added new content. Get ready to face hordes of enemies, go on a raid, visit a dungeon and, of course, snatch goddesses from the clutches of darkness. But, before downloading the game, make sure that the controls and camera position are suitable for you. You can give orders to the hero using the mouse, and watch from a bird's eye view. Thanks to the isometric view, there is a chance to spot the enemy in advance and come up with a plan.

The game was released in 2010, and in 2013 the developers announced a re-release. As a result, the graphics were improved, many systems were changed and bugs were eliminated. Key Feature- an opportunity to see the past. Look behind the screen, filled with colors, special effects, adventures, exploits and battles. Each individual mission is a fascinating journey.

The most successful projects boast six- and seven-digit subscriber numbers, some of which have already been included in the Guinness Book of Records. Who are these moneybags, and which of them is the leader?

Like any other industry, the massive online gaming industry has its champions and its losers. The latter, according to the laws of the genre, are many times more numerous than the former. The criteria for success may be different, but since we live in a world of capitalism, success is determined by the amount of money, which is directly proportional to the number of gamers. In general, this race is always won Online Games with the largest online.

The most successful massive online games

A couple of years ago, when the grass was greener and our needs were simpler, all developers focused and drooled on one single project - . In 2008, after the release of the Wrath of the Lich King, the number of active subscribers of this has exceeded 12 million. This was the team's finest hour, as the game's audience has been slowly but inevitably declining since then. However, even today there are quite a lot of people playing (about 8 million) for this game to continue to hold the title of the most popular.

In 2010, the number of WoW subscribers exceeded 12 million players! Nowadays, the game is rapidly losing its position, having this moment audience of 7 million people.

By the way, it was in 2008 that a white fluffy animal, the Arctic fox, began creeping up on Blizzard’s creation, and it was originally from China. By that time, US residents were spending about $3.8 billion a year on popular online games, mostly on subscription games such as WoW or . By comparison, residents of Germany spent only 250 million, and the UK - 270 million. And only China was able to surpass American housewives with its 5 billion dollars. Interestingly, most of this astronomical amount went to microtransactions, that is, even then the Chinese preferred to play massive online games using the system.

So, the arctic fox that managed to surpass WoW was called. Released in 2008, this MMORPG quickly took the title of the most popular online game, reaching the 30 million mark of active users. Such a wild number of gamers can be explained very simply: about 3 times more people live in China than in the States and Europe combined. In addition, it was very successfully localized in the West and even in Russia, and thus was able to take away part of the pie from the “locals”.

Another record holder is the new MMORPG Blade & Soul. This brainchild of a well-known company has deservedly received the title of “the most successful launch in MMO history.” The popularity of Blade & Soul is already off the charts, and this despite the fact that the game is currently only available in the Asian region. A few months after the start of OBT, more than 18 million gamers managed to play Blade & Soul, and the number of servers exceeded the cosmic figure of 180! Even the famous Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov (the owner of, and, accordingly, the Russian version) can envy such a scale.

Largest online in the Guinness Book of Records

In January 2013, the famous book of records was replenished with one more inhabitant - free shooter. The project was included in the book for one simple reason: the largest online account was registered on the Alpha server – 145 thousand people. In honor of this event, all users taking part in the event received gifts: unique weapon and 500 crowns. By the way, by that time more than 6.5 million people were registered in the game - a more than impressive figure for a shooter.

However, Warface's record did not last long. Already in March 2013, the palm passed to. The developers managed to accommodate more than 190 thousand gamers on one server, which was noted by the corresponding Book certificate.

True, both of these achievements are not entirely honest. When talking about these numbers, it should be remembered that we are not talking about the one-time presence of players in one location. Try placing 190,000 gamers on a map several square kilometers in size, designed for two teams of 15 players, and you will get a picture that can be seen in the main square of North Korea during mass celebrations in honor of the birthday of leader Kim Il Sung.

Who is the “honest” winner in this category? This is, of course, EVE Online. It was registered on May 5, 2013 maximum amount There are 65,303 players on the Tranquility server, and here we are talking specifically about the presence of players in one world.

Race winners

Who now bears the palm? Who are they - online games with the largest number of players? Now we can name only two projects that have noticeably broken away from the mainstream. This is a famous World of Tanks simulator. The first game boasts 32 million subscribers, and the owners of the second count more than 50 million tankers around the world.

Worth spending your time on them. This is, of course, a harsh reality, because there is such a country as the Republic of Korea, in which the production of games in this genre is on a steady stream. But there are projects that stand out from the crowd for their quality, and even manage to not only stick in our memory, but also sometimes evoke nostalgia. It is these 10 good free multiplayer games that we would like to remember today.

Lineage 2

And we'll start with one of the best games our planet has ever seen. And, in general, there is not even irony in this phrase, well, almost. Published back in 2003, it only saw the light of day in 2008, when it was published by the well-known Innova. It was “Ruler” that largely determined what the genre would look like and where it would move as a whole. It was after it that other projects were assessed from the position of “ruler” and not “ruler”. Moreover, it satisfied the demand of those gamers whom the toad was strangling to buy a subscription to World of Warcraft.

Starting the game, we choose a race, and depending on your choice, available various classes, of which there are already 37 pieces in the game. However, upon reaching level 85, each of them is reborn into one of eight balanced archetypes, which, in general, is correct, since it is easier to maintain balance with 8 classes, and not with 37.

Unfortunately, for many over the years, Lineage 2 has become irrelevant. Achieve high levels it became much easier. But, in my opinion, this is correct, since the most interesting content is always at the maximum level, which led to the rapid emergence of various PvP servers with x100 or even x1000 rates. Not everyone liked these changes, and it is not surprising that Lineage 2 Classic appeared, which brings back all the early hardcore and grind, of course.

But the most important thing in the project is, of course, the sieges, in which crowds of players fight for the right to be the best. In general, this is an interesting topic for discussion. What's better? High-level content on PvP servers, when everyone is running around in TOP clothes and glowing from buffs, like garlands, and everything is decided only by the ability to masterly master skills faster than an opponent? Or when leveling up is slow, players can differ dramatically from each other and every few levels the experience from the game is supplemented along with new skills, clothing and capabilities? Let me know what you think about this in the comments.

Perfect World

Perfect World began my journey as an MMO gamer. It came out back in 2005, although it only reached Russia in 2008. How did it compare favorably with its competitors at that time? The answer is obvious - graphics and just a huge open world through which you could fly in all kinds of vehicles. Of course, at that time there was World of Warcraft. But where can a poor schoolchild get money for a subscription? And the ideal world is right here, free, without registration and SMS, although it was still necessary to register there.

At that moment among interesting features Perfect World was listed as a character editor. Now we’re getting greedy, and this won’t surprise anyone, but in those distant times it was one of the first games with such extensive customization.

You're probably wondering what's going on with the plot? Honestly, who the hell knows. I didn’t care about him then, and I don’t care about him now. When you complete idiotic jasper quests every day, the point of which is to buy this damn jasper from the nearest merchant and bring it to the NPC who gave you the quest, and after that fly all over the map, completing idiotic daily tasks, at some point, and in the case of PW this moment comes immediately and abruptly, the plot becomes as indifferent as possible, especially since it takes away precious time, which would be much more profitable to invest in quality.

Otherwise, we have before us the now typical target system and very colorful skills. You can also note the pleasant soundtrack, which, like the entire game, refers gamers to Chinese mythology.

Revelation Online

Further regarding new project, which Mail.Ru localized for us. Translations of such games to a great and mighty event are quite rare and, as a rule, belated. Therefore, Revelation, in a sense, broke the foundations and visually has not yet had time to grow old. Well, like for an MMO, of course.

So, what's interesting here? Well, for example, a character editor. New MMOs in this vein are trying their best to surprise, and Revelation did not stand aside. And here class system brought nothing revolutionary. Everything is quite standard - mage, tank, healer and damage dealer. But the world is completely seamless, and you can literally fly around it. By the way, the flight time from edge to edge of the map will be 20 minutes.

Another main feature is the combat system. It is hybrid here, which means that here you can choose what is more convenient for you, use a non-target or target system. It turned out something like that. In an attempt to sit on two chairs, the developers implemented both options rather mediocrely. The target system is still the same target, but the non-target is more like an auto-aim. But even despite this, Revelation is fun to play.

Although the world is seamless, there are still full-fledged instances that you can go through with a team, and no one will bother you. However, the game has restrictions on the number of trips to them, and not only the victory over the boss is counted, but also the attempt to kill him, which adds a lot of hardcore. But in general, this is not a bad representative of free MMORPGs, on which it’s not a shame to spend a few evenings until you get tired of flying.

Aion

Another game that Innova localized for us. And unlike Lineage 2, Aion was initially distributed by subscription. But her better times long gone, so now you can play completely free, although with some restrictions. Let's start with the graphics, which are based on the same Lineage 2, but with bells and whistles. There are more polygons, and the picture is more realistic. And most importantly, the players learned not only to jump, but also to fly. The world in Aion is not open, but the locations are quite extensive and well designed. Unfortunately, you can’t fly everywhere, which is very frustrating.

The plot of the game begins with the fact that the ancient god Aion created Atreya - a wonderful world that split into two halves. As a result, the awakening of the Balaurs, an aggressive and power-hungry race, and on the two halves of the world two races were formed - the Elyos and the Asmodians. These are the ones we have to play for. The first can be characterized as supporters of good, since they remained on bright side Atrei. They have retained their beauty and attractiveness, and their wings have not lost their whiteness. The Asmodians ended up on the icy lands of Asmodea. They underwent some metamorphosis, acquired claws, and their wings turned black. It is in the mass conflict of the above-mentioned guys that we are offered to take part, and a plot is built around it, which you will quite possibly skip too.

There are as many as 11 classes in the game, so everyone can find something for themselves. They are all pretty standard - wizards, shooters, gladiators, the only thing that stands out among them is the pilot, who is a huge mecha. The combat system in Aion is targeted, but this does not prevent it from being a very good MMORPG.

RF Online

As you can see, Innova has localized quite a few interesting projects, and RF Online is also one of them. And unlike all other TOP games, there is no room for boring fantasy. Harsh future and war for resources. There are three races in the game - the Akretian Empire, the Bellato Federation and the Holy Alliance of Kora. The point is that they are all at war with each other. There is no global universal evil awakening from the abyss of the universe, only an internecine war for minerals. It would seem banal, but after all the pathos and stereotypes that every second MMO feeds us, such down-to-earthness seems like a breath of fresh air. Finally, we are not the chosen fighters against the universal evil of galactic proportions, and we do not need to tear the skies with our drill. Although the magic is still there.

By the way, the combat system of RF Online is old-school targeted, and is very different from everything that the MMO game market can offer us today. Nevertheless, the skill system is quite interesting, we will have to buy them, and the level of the spells themselves increases depending on how often you use them.

Of course, the dawn of RF Online is long past. Two and a half cripples play on the official servers. However, you can always go to unofficial servers and just have fun if you have played it before.

Black Desert

Again, a fairly recent game, published by the extremely little-known company GameNet. It came out pretty lousy, I dare say. However, in this article we will not discuss the problems of localizers. And if you try to describe Black Desert in one word, it would be grind. You have to grind everywhere, no matter what you do. Do you want to become a culinary master or professional player, please waste a lot of real time.

But character leveling is a different story. Regular MMOs have maximum level, the so-called cap. Everyone strives for it, and having received it, they begin late-game activities - dressing up a character or pumping up crafting skills, improving their reputation, and so on and so forth. IN Black Desert you will never reach the cap, it simply doesn’t exist. The apotheosis of the grind, what can I say.

You will receive most of the experience from killing monsters. But it’s worth noting that it’s damn nice to do this. Excellent non-target combat will not let you get bored. But the number of mobs is extremely small, so clashes over spots (mob respawn points) are not uncommon in Black Desert.

The trading system is a little complicated, and is aimed primarily not at entertaining the player, but again at grinding. You will have to hire workers, produce goods and sell them. Moreover, if you want to sell it at a higher price, you will have to transport the goods far away. In general, you can literally get stuck here if you are a fan of literally living in games. In addition, the graphics and animation are also in perfect order.

TERA Online

One of those games that decided to move away from the usual foundations in the world of MMORPG, making one of the first real non-target combats, quite good, by the way. So much so that I’m not even afraid to call TERA a game with one of the best non-target combats on the market in principle. And the good thing about it is that it is the most honest, you shoot, hit, fire a fireball, and whether it hits the enemy depends only on your straightforwardness. There is no tricky auto-targeting or monstrous hitboxes. It was for non-target that she got into this TOP, strictly speaking. Due to the non-target combat, the gameplay for boring classes in MMOs looks new, you have to dodge, move and hit the target at the same time.

The game world in TERA, although large, is, unfortunately, not seamless, and you cannot fly around it. Nevertheless, the set of classes is not bad and, suddenly, due to the same combat system, it is extremely diverse. Knights, waving spears, aggro monsters and cover themselves and their allies with shields, archers and arrows lead distant battle behind the knights, and next to them stand magicians and healers who support their team by applying useful buffs. It seems like everything is the same as in any other MMO, but the combat feels completely different.

It is worth noting that the graphics in the game are really beautiful. After all, everything runs on the Unreal Engine 3, which is still quite popular for MMOs. True, the problem is with the balance. Every time you enter new class, for some time (usually until the next major update) it becomes a damn imbue. This is terribly unpleasant, but it keeps the loins of the community in good shape.

Blade and Soul

Another game with a non-target system, but in my humble opinion, Blade and Soul is somewhat inferior to the same TERA. Here the emphasis is more on combinations of attacks, and there are not so many skills themselves, while in TERA there are many more skills, and it looks much more like a typical MMORPG. Although this is probably a matter of taste, and for some it will be much more interesting to build a combo.

Blade and Soul boasts nice graphics and an interesting character editor. Although in all modern MMOs these two items are usually present by default. The main feature of Blade and Soul is, of course, the combat system. It is non-target, it implements interesting combo systems, so it is not your gear that decides, but your skill.

The assortment also includes a plot, but there is absolutely no need to delve into it, since it is completely imbued with Korean flavor and signature Asian madness.

Pumping deserves special mention. Since clothes do not give any bonuses and regularly perform a cosmetic function, they offer you to increase your stats with a thing called trigrams. Strictly speaking, it's like a saucer on which you place various pieces that increase your stats, and it's hard to explain. Just know that instead of an armored bra for +10 to agility, there is some abstract crap for the same +10 to agility. In essence, nothing has changed, only externally it is presented differently.

Also speaking about external features. Here you can't fly or hover, but you can jump quite high. This is something like a local version of fast travel, and it is done very, very effectively.

Unfortunately, the game was not translated into Russian for a very long time, and visually it became a little outdated. But relatively recently it was localized, and now everyone can deeply immerse themselves in this, I must say, very pleasant Korean experience.

Icarus Online

You might be surprised that this game does in this TOP. And this is not surprising, because Icarus Online is a good game with a bad Russian-language publisher, that’s what happens sometimes. They are greeted, as usual, with their clothes and graphics, and although Icarus is not as good as Black Desert, it still boasts the CryEngine 3 engine, which, by the way, does not even lag, which is quite surprising.

Races were not brought into the game either, only people, only hardcore. The classes in the game are standard, like in any self-respecting MMORPG. Medics, tanks, damage dealers, in general, nothing new. The character editor is good, however, this will surprise few people now. And everything would be completely sad and depressing, and we would send the project to the stable with the rest of the pale MMOs, if not... animals. To be honest, pets are the main feature of the whole game.

If in any other MMO we had to stomp on our own for a long time, then in Icarus Online We quickly transfer to the mount. At first just a rideable one, and quite soon a flying one. Moreover, to start using them, they need to be tamed, and this is implemented in the form of a mini-game.

The combat system here is hybrid, and is very reminiscent of the one in Revelation. Although fighting is pleasant, it is, let’s say, very long, since leveling up in the game itself takes a fair amount of time. And this is connected primarily with a simply huge open world, which is completely seamless. Therefore, it sometimes takes a very long time to get to tasks, even using pets. In addition to simply moving, flying animals can be used for battles. Although we are essentially fighting ourselves, just sitting on the back of our horse. But even that is quite fun.

Icarus Online will leave behind a pleasant aftertaste. It’s not a fact that it will captivate you for a very long time, but definitely for some time.

Neverwinter Online

When you saw the title, you probably thought that this was an online continuation of the masterpiece Neverwinter Nights from Bioware and Obsidian, but no. The universe, of course, is the same, and when you enter the game you will see painfully familiar races - tieflings, halflings and many others, but Neverwinter Online, of course, does not live up to its older brothers. The RPG components have been greatly reduced, but this is a damn cool MMO.

What we have in front of us is a non-target combat, a good one, but it was not done well. It is not necessary to directly aim at the enemy; it is enough that the sight is at least near the enemy. And even despite this, fighting is a lot of fun. You have to dodge and use skills, which, by the way, do not require mana. So everything can be put into action immediately after the cooldown.

The world is not seamless and is divided into many territories and instances. Controversial decision, people still prefer open world and boss raids, for which you have to do PvP. But Neverwinter doesn't have all this. On the other hand, the instance system in the game is implemented quite well. Carrying out story quest, you can be transferred from location to location to cooperate with other gamers. There is also a workshop available in the game where players can create their own own tasks, and the most interesting ones are awarded. Quite an interesting feature, although it didn’t really appeal to me.

Neverwinter Online came out in 2013 and is still doing well. Isn't this an indicator of quality?

TOP 10 best free MMORPG videos open close

Massively multiplayer online games or simply MMORPGs - this combination is known to almost everyone, and every day the army of fans of this genre is growing. In turn, the developers are in a hurry to pamper this army of fans with more and more new and new MMORPGs. However, unfortunately, most of them come down to simple cloning of existing projects.

But today I will introduce you to ten games that are truly worth playing. You may be surprised that neither the famous Lineage 2 nor the even more famous World of Warcraft made it into this TOP. The point here is that these games are pretty outdated and no longer meet the requirements of today. Many people still play them only because they simply don’t know about others - much more modern games, in which the graphics are much cooler and the gameplay is much richer. These are the truly worthwhile projects that will be discussed in our TOP.

10. Blade and Soul

8. The Elder Scrolls Online

Next on the list, but not least, is another great game from the line Elder Scrolls. The events in the game take place a thousand years before the events in Skyrmia. The action takes place in the fictional world of Tamriel

As usual, we will have an abundance of races and classes to choose from. The game has a huge and amazing combat system, which has been changed so that using all the skills looks like in other MMORPGs.

There are also pets, horse riding, professional leveling, soul stones and three factions represented by different animals. Here you will find vampires, werewolves, and much more. However, there will no longer be an opportunity to become infected and become a vampire. Apparently it turned out to be too difficult to implement this in an MMORPG, and the idea was abandoned.

7. Arche Age

The developers provide the player with so many options that it’s simply dizzying. Firstly, it is worth noting that you will be able to build, and build houses for yourself, create farms. Moreover, you can independently build entire fortresses and seize territory. Moreover, in the occupied territory you will be able to receive tribute from all players who will also build houses on your territory.

In addition, the game has a very original PvP system - there is no confrontation between races or classes. The entire confrontation is built between the players. Someone, let's say, attacked your fortress and destroyed it. It’s clear that you go on a campaign with your clan to take revenge on the scoundrels. This is exactly what PvP and the whole story of the game are based on. You can build not only houses and fortresses, but also ships - fight on these ships, board enemies, and so on. In addition, there is also a certain fantasy semblance of tanks.

You can mine resources and rob other players. Also, of course, there is a huge number of dungeons, bosses and all sorts of mobs from which you can get a lot of different goodies. There are, of course, disadvantages in the game, one of which is that mail.ru is responsible for the Russian localization of the game, which, as you understand, knows how to spoil good game an abundance of donations.

6. Parograd

This game is the only browser-based MMORPG on our list. Of course, in terms of graphics it is inferior to the giants, but otherwise it amazes with its capabilities, which are in no way inferior top games in its genre.

The main advantage of the Parograd game is that you don’t need to download anything. You simply register on the site and immediately start playing right in your browser. At the same time, the game is completely three-dimensional. You can also travel in it big world, there is a skill panel. In a word, everything is like in an ordinary normal MMORPG.

5. Aion

Enough strange game in the sense that, despite the seemingly paid subscription, it allows itself such impudence as game stores for real money.

Of course, it's very easy to hate the Korean crafting system and cloying social presentation, right down to weddings. But if they play it, then the game has a right to exist.

The game is distinguished by beautiful graphics and a truly free open world. You can fly on your own wings, climbing the highest mountains and looking around the colossal world of Aion.

Read more about the game in Aion's review.

4. Royal Quest

The only Russian MMORPG in this TOP. Of course, it was not by chance that she was included in this list. After all, in all its characteristics it corresponds to any top online games. This includes excellent graphics and a huge, bright world with a large number of virtual characters and real players.

The game is also distinguished by its unique style, which includes elements of fantasy and steampunk. The game begins as an ordinary fairy-tale fantasy, but as you progress, the locations become increasingly darker, amazing mechanisms begin to appear, and then even signs modern world with electricity, etc.

3. Neverwinter Online

One of those games that millions of gamers have been waiting for, without exaggeration. Neverwinter Online features excellent graphics, truly beautiful locations, a non-target combat system that embodies a realistic physical model of battles, and even the ability to create your own quests

The game is linear, that is, you have to travel mainly along a specific path, which allowed you to hone all the quests to the maximum.

Because of all this, playing the game is truly interesting.

2. Black Gold Online

Another MMORPG in the style of steampunk and fantasy.

One of the key features of the project is the ability to complete some missions inside a robot - a mech. Moreover, you can play from both third and first person, like in classic shooters, which for some reason is something truly unique for MMORPGs. Although the ability to play in first person seems to have been in the air for a long time, bringing with it amazing gameplay possibilities.

The game was developed in China, but the developers were inspired more by the movie Avatar, because the main theme that is revealed in the game is the confrontation between the natural world and technology. Each player can choose one side or the other and enter into an irreconcilable war.

1. Tera Online

The game provides a huge, beautiful world that is a pleasure to explore. A huge number of skills that you can enhance. By the way, it is worth noting that the combat system is very, very attractive.

The game is good in every category that can be measured. Of course, there are some tricks here too. For example, a non-target system - that is, in order to strike an enemy, you must aim at him, otherwise you will simply miss. It looks much cooler than it sounds, believe me, the combat here is very realistic. This is especially true for shooters. At first it’s difficult to get used to such a system, but after an hour of playing you get the hang of it and start to get the hang of it. The peculiarity of non-target is that the player can take out the enemy, even if he is higher than him in level - and all only because he uses the mouse accurately and competently. That's how she is Tera Online.

Naturally, there is crafting, there is a profession that can be upgraded, and a lot of things that are typical of any self-respecting MMORPG. Finally, another important advantage of the game is its Russian localization, and of course it’s free.

The development of computer games is so rapid that it has become almost impossible to keep up with all the new products. But it’s easy to find in one genre or another. But there are some problems with the objectivity of such ratings. Nevertheless, it is necessary to talk about popular MMORPGs.

Description

But first, some information for those who are not well versed in genres and computer games generally. MMORPG is exactly what the abbreviation stands for.

But this interpretation is not always enough to understand whether a particular game belongs to this genre. Before us is a project that combines several game options: role-playing and mass.

MMORPG games come in different varieties. Due to the not fully regulated classification, they often include projects that are not exactly those that were originally conceived as mass role-playing games. However, you can play them through the launcher or browser. It does not matter.

The main feature of MMORPGs is the virtual world and a large number of gamers who interact with each other.

The essence

So, the player controls a character who can be attributed to a virtual world filled with history. He has the ability to use different abilities.

Of course, there are projects for which it is difficult to assign a specific typology. For example, small multi-user role-playing games They won’t be called MMORPGs, just like single-player projects. This is because there is no permanently existing world in them.

Developers are working on a virtual “planet” for an MMORPG. It continues to exist regardless of whether new player on it, or another gamer left it.

Popularity

It is played all over the world. Cool and high-quality projects leave no one indifferent. Some games develop huge fan bases within a few years. Such communities live through games and the virtual world. They come up with a name for their commune and create their own rules in it.

When in 2005 they calculated the amount that this genre brought in, it immediately became clear which games belonged to the future. Even then the income amounted to $500 million. When the game appeared on the horizon in 2011 Star Wars: she was able to win the hearts of one million players in just three days.

And in 2013, the famous World of Warcraft project gathered 7 million players from all over the world.

Traits

If you look at old projects, even they are already different from the new ones. But still, the general parameters remain the same: the presence of a permanent virtual world, the ability to level up a character, interactions with other players, one’s own culture, general style, the presence of a community, personalization of individual entrepreneurs.

To be specific, you definitely need to name a specific topic. MMORPG games are often based on fantasy. There is a tendency for developers to turn to Dungeons world&Dragons. Among the themes, there are also more hybrid cases when familiar stories can be combined with science or crime.

The main goal of all these games is to level up your character. The gamer has the opportunity to improve it and develop it. To do this, he must earn experience points, some resources, and interact with other players for his own benefit.

Social interactions as one of the main features of MMORPGs include the presence of clans, guilds and other specialized groups. Thanks to them, gamers can freely get acquainted, communicate, and help each other.

It is impossible not to mention the role-playing component, which is even included in the name. All popular MMORPGs for PC have the ability to choose a character from different types of classes. Each role has its own strengths and weaknesses. There are key movement players on whom tactics are based. There is a role of assistant or healer. It all depends on the project itself and its thoughtfulness.

Of course, there is a lot more that can be said when describing the features of this online game. But if you understand the general essence, then you can delve into the details when you get acquainted with a specific project.

Rating

Making various ratings is a thankless task. There will definitely be someone who will criticize each position and put forward their own proposals. Rating MMORPGs is a doubly thankless task, since gamers can sometimes be very aggressive. And if their favorite game didn’t make it to first place, they might get really angry and start writing angry comments to the author.

Such tops can only be compiled after studying the resources that conducted a special vote. But it is impossible to talk about the objectivity of such a rating. Even if you open a couple of such tops, it turns out that one game can first be in first place, then sharply fall two positions lower, and then even end up at the very end.

List

The list of MMORPGs turned out to be compact. Once again it must be said that it is not compiled by rating. It includes some of the most famous, beloved and popular games:

  • World of Warcraft;
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic;
  • ArcheAge;
  • Aion;
  • Lineage 2;
  • Guild Wars 2;
  • Eve Online;
  • Destiny 2;
  • Ultima Online;
  • Black Desert.

The list can be supplemented. Someone will want to remove a couple of projects from it and add their own options. But this is what a dozen online role-playing games look like at the moment. Each of them is found in any rating. Therefore, in order not to cause conflicts and disputes between players, consider that this is just a list of popular MMORPGs.

World of Warcraft

It is difficult to find a person who does not know what this project is. Its creator was Blizzard. This is not the only successful work of the developer. But this particular game became for many the best in the entire history of the existence of this genre.

The project appeared in 2004. It is not free, although some find it easier to pay only once and then pay with in-game currency.

When Blizzard developers introduced the game to the world, they decided to quietly retire. Occasionally they released different sequels and made updates. Now this project is attracting newcomers less and less, since it has become abandoned by the developer himself. Although there are more than 15 million players in the WoW database.

There is no denying that everything about this project is outdated. If earlier it was rightfully considered the most popular MMORPG in the world, now it remains in the hearts of only experienced gamers and those who are nostalgic for the 2000s.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

This is another project that is often remembered, although it will never regain its former glory. Story " Star Wars"remains a cult favorite for many. Even all the modern space masterpieces of cinema cannot surpass this work.

That is why this game also belongs to the popular MMORPGs. We first heard about it back in 2008, but only saw it during its release in 2011. After its release, many publications gave it a high score, some even said that it was the best competitor to the cult World of Warcraft.

Since 2012, the developers decided to release the project as a Free-to-play model. But it cannot be said that this added to the popularity of the game.

ArcheAge

This is a Korean project that deservedly made it onto the list due to its popularity. The developer was the company XLGames, about which almost nothing is known. Europe and Russia saw this project in 2014.

This multiplayer game has become a favorite for many because it has a well-developed fantasy world of the same name. It shows the Middle Ages, magical features, and steampunk.

ArcheAge is based on several books by the writer Min-Hee Chung from Korea. Mail.Ru Games worked on Russian localization. It’s interesting that at the time of the closed beta, the game entered the top list of popular MMORPGs in Russia, but already with the open beta test it fell to the very bottom. Now it is difficult to say what caused such differences. But the project still gathered fans around it, who created their own cozy community, but always welcome newcomers.

Aion

A very large Korean project. Appeared in Russia in 2009. By this time, more than 3 million people from Asia were interested in the game. Perhaps, main feature Aion can be called the hard work of the developers.

Since their inception, they have worked tirelessly on updates. As a result, 32 additional chapters appeared over the entire period. Each a new version got its name.

Lineage 2

Aion is not the only project of NCSoft. They also became the developers and publishers of the popular “line”. The game became a prequel to events that began 150 years before Lineage.

The “line” was announced back in 2002. By the next year, popularity had gained unreal proportions. In March 2007, she was able to recruit a million gamers, and a year later they learned about this game in Russia. There is information that then more than 14 million players became interested in the project.

Guild Wars 2

Without this game, the review of the MMORPG also could not take place. Of course, you can add the first part to this project. But still the second one is more a new game, which became known in 2012. And although it’s hard to believe, NCSoft has worked on it again. Now this company has become a publisher, but the developers turned out to be guys from the American company ArenaNet.

Many experts characterize this project as best level AAA. Despite developments dying down, the fanbase is saving the day, working on the community and supporting Guild Wars 2 with their own efforts.

Eve Online

This “old man” appeared in 2003. The project has gone through more than 20 updates, but for many it still remains the best sci-fi MMORPG. For beginners there is the possibility of a two-week free game.

Despite being almost 15 years old, Eve Online still gives no reason to be disappointed. Yes, it will be difficult for beginners to play, and yes, it lacks the classic level system. But all these are minor details that are covered by hundreds of skills and complex systems for leveling them up.

Destiny 2

The game is now on everyone's lips. This is not surprising, since it appeared in September 2017. Developer Bungie is offering a one-time purchase model. Despite the agreement, the game was a year late. But that’s a good thing, because it piqued the interest of fans and attracted the attention of those who didn’t care.

The gameplay is very similar to that found in the first part, but now there are some additions. For example, players can fight in teams of four in all PvP modes. There are also new activities - the option to go to social locations to meet gamers around the world.

Ultima Online

The oldest project, which was released in 1997. This MMORPG is considered the first in this genre. It is possible that there were similar attempts earlier, but it was in this case that it managed to achieve worldwide popularity.

The developer was Origin Systems. The game features the same fantasy world, developed by Richard Garriott, who would later create Lineage 2. The project was not only the first, but also entered the Guinness Book of Records.

Black Desert

And the last one on our list of popular MMORPGs is Black game Desert. In 2015, she restored faith in a bright future for many fans of this genre. The project received sandbox elements. IN virtual world, which acts like a living organism, you can constantly perform some kind of interaction.

In the game you can besiege castles, buy or sell real estate. Trade and production activities are also available to the player. The project offers a choice of character from 13 classes and a huge variety of cool, but previously unheard of features for an MMORPG.

conclusions

As already mentioned, this list can be continued indefinitely. Moreover, even after hundreds of projects it will be difficult to stop. MMORPG is a very popular genre that attracts the attention of millions of players around the world. Its main advantage is engagement. The gamer has the passion to become the best in the virtual world, so he can tirelessly upgrade his character, day and night.

Questions about the psychology of fans of this genre also arise. There are some studies that show that MMORPGs are an insidious and dangerous genre for impressionable players. But for most fans, this is still an opportunity to expand the geography of acquaintances, have fun and escape from everyday life.
