Skills work on an inheritance system, which means that you unlock them in a strict order from left to right. It's recommended to start with the basics like execution and mid-range shots, and then focus on Shadow Strike, which allows you to teleport and kill enemies from great distances. Shadow Strike opens up some questionable stealth options, and also makes traversing the enemy much faster. Speaking of basics, beat the first act and you'll unlock some great basic abilities. Once you reach the second act, you will also discover the capabilities of the Nemesis system, such as deadly threats and outposts.

In Shadow of Mordor, skills worked using a combo system. If you pull off a hard enough combo, you'll be able to use some ability. Instead, there was a “power” scale that filled up as different techniques were used. Once it's full, you can spend it on a special ability such as an execution or AoE. Luckily, unlike the combo system, you don't have to spend power right away. You can save it between battles and spend it as you see fit. Power is used up quickly, and it takes a while to accumulate in the early stages of the game - spend it sparingly, and take upgrades that will help you accumulate it.

In fact, the main reason the Power Gauge made it to this list is that its feature is not immediately noticeable at the beginning of the game. Partly because it looks like a small, inconspicuous bar in the corner of the interface.

Captains are smarter than ever

Overall, Nemesis hasn't changed much, which is good. But the cunning captains have received some improvements. There are many more unique traits to look out for before attacking the captain, such as special new abilities such as tribe bonuses for pikemen and assassins. Moreover, they received new equipment. The captains you meet will have poisoned or cursed weapons that deal massive damage - the fight will end quickly if you're not careful.

More impressive new system adaptation. Captains now learn your strategies and adapt to them. They suddenly attack you with a rapid stream of attacks, forcing you to check every step, and a mistake will be unforgivable. Let's say you're fighting a shield fighter, a defensive class captain. The best way to defeat him - go around his shield and attack from behind. Great! The detour was a success. But don’t delay finishing things off. If you use this trick on him too often, he will gain a skill that blocks your jumps behind his back. Captains can cover their weaknesses if you give them time, so finish them off quickly.

For beginners, there is a big difference between weakness and mortal weakness. If the captain is weak to attacks from afar, you can damage him with a bow. If the captain is "lethally" weak to such attacks, you can finish him off with one shot - one enhanced headshot. The same applies to explosions, sneak attacks, executions, and so on. Mortal weakness is your best friend.


There is also a new status “stunned”, which is also part of this system. Captains may be intimidated if you take advantage of their fears or weaknesses. Set them on fire, poison them, kill their guards - confuse them in any way. Because when the captain is "stunned", all their immunities are gone. Poof - and no. Immunity to execution? Protection against hidden attacks? Blocking ranged attacks? Not now. The frightened captain is not completely defenseless; he may begin to try to escape. If you still have arrows and power left before the captain's fright, you can finish them off easily.

You can improve your equipment

The process of acquiring and upgrading equipment has received greater development in Shadow of War. First of all, you are changing the item instead of adding new stats to it. This creates an addictive loot-grind system like in Diablo, and there are some new rungs on the ladder to better gear. In addition to replacing old weapons with new ones, best stats, you can improve the quality of your Epic or Legendary items by completing challenges associated with them. These can be found in the item description and once you complete them you will unlock new passive abilities.

However, you will also have to spend Mirian to start using them. First of all, the user refuses to comply with the terms of the license agreement, as a result of which network functions are blocked, and with them the in-game goods store. This works not only on PC, but also on consoles, as Eurogamer journalists were convinced (pictures below are from the version for Xbox One were published by them). It is worth keeping in mind that this feature is only available on the new account- if you have already accepted the terms of the agreement, you will not be allowed to change your decision.

Then, using the Cheat Engine program, you can increase the number of coins of both currencies - Mirian, which is given out for completing a variety of tasks (it is also hidden in locations), and Gold, which is available for purchase for real money, but can also be obtained for completing special tests. As Neowin clarifies, data on the number of Mirians is stored on the user’s hard drive and therefore can be easily changed, and gold is more difficult to obtain, since the relevant information is located on the game servers. Thus, it is not difficult to get an infinite number of silver chests with equipment and gold ones, which can contain legendary Uruks, without spending real money.

Warner Bros. reaction Interactive Entertainment has not yet followed up. It is likely that the publisher will somehow remove the possibility of “cheating” the currency, but it is also possible that no action will be taken. The fact is that silver containers are not of great value and are not available for purchase for real money (however, with due diligence, only through them you can get all the necessary equipment and raise a powerful army of orcs), and premium ones are not easy to get by dishonest means. In addition, such cheating software does not exist on consoles, and the company probably receives the main revenue from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Last month, Eurogamer spoke with Middle-earth: Shadow of War design director Bob Roberts about micropayments. Then the developer will convince journalists that in-game purchases for real money are strictly voluntary and are primarily intended for those who value free time, but at the same time want to get a vivid experience.
