Why do the settings get lost in GTA 4?

"it will get lost) I'm creating a topic. I hope no one will be against it)) Thanks to Andy87 for the hint (I wouldn't have thought of it myself)))

Actually, I don’t pretend to be a pioneer)) I just collected all possible solutions to problems with optimization in one place for greater convenience. It’s easier to look for these methods here than on various forums.

This material was created over the course of two weeks and contains information exclusively for those who do not understand how to optimize the game. Most of the ways to improve game performance are also collected here. I do not guarantee smooth running of the game and high FPS, since all these methods do not work for everyone, but at least for many. Still, I think it’s worth a try for everyone.

In general, I decided to create a manual to improve the performance of the game. Maybe newbies will start asking fewer questions) I’ll say right away that I used methods that gave results for some people, but not for others.

So what can you do to improve your performance? Let's look at each of the methods I used.

1) Just in case, update all programs and drivers that are used by the game in one way or another:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
- DirectX
- Video card drivers
- Install update packages for Windows Vista - SP1, for XP - SP3. This applies to those who simply changed the value in the registry (it won’t get worse anyway)
- It is also advisable to update the sound drivers

2) File creation commandline.txt in the root folder of the game. When creating this file, I used the following commands (command description in brackets):

-availablevidmem 2 (number 2 - for video cards with a memory capacity of 256 megabytes, respectively, for video cards with 128 megabytes you need to set the number “1”, for 512 - “3”, for 1024 - “4” and so on. Some put values like “1.4 "and others. I haven’t tried it, but it helps some. By the way, the team helps many with solving the problem with textures);

-noprecache(there are no digital values, the command disables preliminary file caching, which helps some with wild swaps. It also increases performance, again for some);

-nomemrestrict(disables memory limitation, and therefore does not play a special role in performance, unless of course you want to set the graphics, as they say, “to maximum”);

-norestrictions(command to open hidden settings, affects FPS in the same way as the previous command);

-novblank(disables vertical synchronization. ViSynch is still relatively invisible to the human eye, but for its stealth it consumes more resources than it should, so feel free to register it);

-minspecaudio(running the game with minimal sound quality. The deterioration in quality is almost not noticeable, except that I stopped hearing the bass effect from cars passing by, but this is not so important. But it reduces the load on the processor in the form of sound processing, which is very useful for some team);

3) Working with in-game settings:

The first thing to do is mark shadows. Feel free to set “0”, since with large values only the dynamic display of shadows from people and pillars is turned on when headlights are directed at them. As many years as we have played games without this effect, we will continue to do so. With zero settings, performance increases noticeably.

- traffic density. A relatively controversial parameter, but I set it to 30 and am not complaining. At values greater than fifty (or sixty, I don’t remember), the difference is no longer noticeable.

- depth of detail. I haven’t particularly tested this effect, set the value to “1” and let it continue. When you move the slider to the right, you can feel a drop in FPS. The slider itself is responsible for detailing.

- viewing distance. To make it less scary, the value is “35”. At zero, everything in the distance is blurry and solid lods (lesser quality copies of buildings with terrible textures (note for those who don’t know));

- texture quality. I’ll say right away that the difference between the minimum value and the maximum is large, but at the same time the FPS spread is not that big. Therefore, for those who want to get GTA4 and not GTA3, it is recommended to set the value to “Average”. The difference between medium and high values is relatively small, but this difference has a very good effect on FPS;

- image quality. At a low value, the textures in the distance seem to be blurred, but at the best value they are as clear as in front of Niko’s nose. A kind of texture filtering. Also, for those who do not want terrible graphics, it is recommended to set the value to medium, or even high, since the difference in FPS between low, medium and high is not so big, there is practically no;
- screen resolution. There is nothing to explain here. It is advisable, of course, to set the megahertz value to the same as in Windows. Yes, just in case))

4) Drivers, for those who do not know, must be completely removed. And only then install new ones in safe mode. Because I know only a few people who think that updating drivers means installing new ones on top of old ones. And yet, it is not enough to remove the driver through the control panel. After removal, you need to clean the computer with Driver Sweeper. Select different drivers, basically the choice lies between 180.84 and 181.00 on Zhifors and 8.11 - 8.12 on radics. There have been cases when the game ran better on 170 drivers for InVidia than on 180s.

5) After installing the official patch, the game began to run smoother. This effect is not noticed in everyone, but in many. Still, trying is not torture)

6) Free the processor from everything that loads it. Since the game consumes mainly the processor, and not the video card as many people think.

7) There is also the fact that the pirated version works better than the license. A pirated version works better than a license, again, not for everyone. Someone noticed the opposite phenomena. So this point is also important.

8) I will give an example from my experience. After overclocking my E6550 from 2.33 GHz to 2.95 GHz, for some reason the game began to slow down terribly, BUT, after I returned the default settings in the BIOS, the game began to run smoother than before the unsuccessful overclocking.

9) You can turn off (kill the process during the game) Rockstar Social Club, again, just in case)) (helps some with a texture problem)

10) Disable " Recording videos" ("Clip Capture") in the game menu (if we are not going to shoot videos). Disabling it gives a very noticeable increase in FPS.

That's all for now. If new methods are found, they will appear on this list immediately)

In general, the human eye itself will determine when the braking is noticeably strong and when it is almost non-existent. I myself play on high settings, although it produces 21-25 FPS, but I have long been accustomed to playing games on monstrously old computers, so for my eyes the game runs smoothly, and thank you for that).

Information about the game settings and my hardware (as an example):
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 Ghz
GeForce 8600GT 256 Mb
ASUatek P5B Socket755
2 Gb DDR-II (plate per gig)
HDD Western Digital 320 Gb 7200rpm 8Mb
Windows XP SP3 + all updates to date

Average FPS 28-31, with drops up to 20 in particularly hot situations (before optimization it was about 12-15 FPS with drops up to 8 in particularly hot situations)

Average FPS is 21-25, with drops up to 15 in particularly hot situations (before optimization it was about 5-8 FPS with drops up to 1 in particularly hot situations)

I can say with relief that these two weeks of hard struggle were not in vain)) Rockstar 0:1 I)))) (Changed on the screenshots " -availablevidmem 2" on " availablevidmem 1.7"but I didn’t seem to notice the difference) I measured Fraps, since the standard Bench is there only for fun)))

1) If you have Win7 installed in the commandline.txt file, it is advisable to remove the line -availablevidmem
2) In the stream.ini file (\Grand Theft Auto IV\pc) set the values equal to 3/4 of the initial ones. For example, if it was 2048, put 1536, etc.)
3) You can install modifications that can slightly improve performance (this or this). ATTENTION! FPS increase is not guaranteed. But as an option you can set it, the FPS will not decrease - for sure.

That seems to be all for now...

We were alarmed by the statements of those who played that GTA 4 turned out to be a game with ambitious requests for hardware. And it turned out to be true. Yes, gluttonous. Yes, enthusiasts are fighting to at least a little calm the game’s hardware appetites.

15 wasted gigabytes of disk space is the least that GTA 4 requires of a PC, what kind of “okay” can there be?
The worst fears that GTA4 would "crash" (some fans, unlike the game creators themselves, correctly translated CrySis as "CRY System" - make the computer cry from the load) came true, and at the same time an active search began for a compromise between "eye-candy" picture" and "brakes", at the same time the search for solutions to "speed up" the game began.

It’s easy to knock down - it’s difficult to get a “knock down”
On one of the 250 pages of the already significantly expanded GTA 4 thread on overclockers forum the user shared his research in the field.

In short: GTA 4 is greedy for both cores and hundreds of megahertz. As a result of several performance tests, where only the processor multiplier was changed, it was found that the game “adds” approximately 5 fps (frames per second) when the processor frequency increases by half a gigahertz (500 MHz), all other things being equal.

However, it should be noted that “other things being equal” include at a minimum: GeForce 8800/9800 or Radeon HD 4850@OverClocked/HD 4870 and 2 gigabytes of RAM.

To remove restrictions on setting graphics quality, you need to create a text file in the game folder (main) commandline.txt(with txt extension) and write in it -norestrictions.

And if you write it also (you need to put a space between the commands) -availablevidmem 2 or -availablevidmem 1(experiment which is better) the game engine will assume that your PC has a lot of video memory and will finally use the video memory to the maximum.

Recently in "personal pages" came out A note on Grand Theft Auto IV performance, Where Dert shared his research on the topic “how much video memory does GTA 4 use by default.”

It turned out that with 512 MB of GDDR3/GDDR5, more than 100 megabytes remain free, and despite the fact that textures are constantly pumped from RAM.

There are more options -novblank -noprecache -nomemrestrict, which can be written in the "text book" commandline.txt.

Alternatively, the text in the file could look like this: -availablevidmem 2 -norestrictions -novblank -noprecache -nomemrestrict.

Or maybe it’s not for nothing that the developers of GTA 4 hid the high quality settings? So as not to scare people with such numbers. Note that “this” is at medium resolution
And also, it’s worth experimenting with turning off the “Clip Capture” option in the “Game” parameter of the game. It is not in the main menu of the game; "Game" appears when you press "ESC" during the game. It helped some, not others.

By the way, there is information that the recently released patch 1.01 For some users, the game drops by 5-10 fps, which at a “liquid” 20-25 fps is simply critical, so this patch is not entirely “kosher” for increasing fps.

Owners of GeForce video cards can be advised to use “special” drivers Forceware 180.84. For Radeon owners, we are waiting for “special” drivers.

The developer is often criticized for such scenes, and RockStar responds: “Doesn’t the game reflect the ins and outs of our lives that society unsuccessfully tries to hide?”
From viewing dozens of pages on various forums, one conclusion emerges - the GTA 4 game is very “crude” in terms of engine optimization. Maybe the second, third or “nth” patch will correct this misunderstanding...

HP OMEN 17 2019 laptop review: a worthy alternative to desktop gaming Smart home HIPER IoT: a big overview of a large ecosystem

If a gamer has a powerful personal computer or laptop, then it is important for him to have fun in games only at high settings. A problem that often arises is that in GTA 4 the graphics settings do not change and all the sliders are stuck at minimum. Since this project is part of the legendary series, all self-respecting fans of the industry want to try it. For them, changing settings is of paramount importance, and you need to know the mechanisms for correcting the situation.

The essence of the error

The problem with the graphics settings not changing in GTA 4 comes from the client itself. Some users on the Internet say that the root of the problem lies in a video card with two or more gigabytes of memory. This is not true, because technology cannot change the system code in any way. When purchasing a licensed version from official distributors, no such errors were observed, which means that the whole point is in broken games. In the process of introducing the tablet, pirates lose sight of something, and various effects arise, including the inability to change characteristics.

Start of correction

So, the user entered the game and immediately saw that the graphics settings did not change in GTA 4. There is no need to panic and search the forums for the answer to this simple question. First of all, just exit the client and find the directory where all the files of the already unpacked client are located. In the same folder, by right-clicking, select the “Create” command. You need a regular text notepad document where all correction operations will be carried out. Next you need to rename this file. Right-click on it and select the corresponding item in the menu. The name should be commandline, which means “command line”. This way the game client will perceive the file as a system one, and it will affect all the data inside, which means it will help fix the problem with the settings.

Set the command

Creating one document is not enough. In GTA 4, the graphics settings are not changing due to a glitch in the source code, and this needs to be fixed with the correct command. To do this, double-click the left mouse button to open the created text file; you need to enter a certain line in it. Its general appearance should be “-noprecache -nomemrestrict -norestrictions -novblank -nomemrestrict”. Please note that before each dash there is a space, which must be present in the document. After this, save the file in the menu or use the Ctrl plus S key combination for this. After this, the user should not have an error with the fact that in GTA 4 the graphics settings do not change to a position other than the standard one. It’s better to carefully check the text document so that you don’t have to go back and do this operation again.

Changing settings

It’s worth noting right away that if the problem remains relevant the next time you log in, then it’s better to do each step again. Delete the text document, create it again and write the specified words correctly. Then GTA 4 will bring you real satisfaction. Why don’t the graphics settings change and other similar questions will lose their relevance. After the completed operations, feel free to launch the client. Wait for the download and go to the interface management menu item. There is a “graphics” item where you can quite finely customize the display of many elements. For example, the quality of car rendering can be specified from zero to one hundred, and at the maximum setting the cars will really look great. Recommend this method to friends and acquaintances who are also facing this problem to play together and have fun. Together with the installation of mods, the game can show a really high-quality picture, so you shouldn’t deny yourself this.

Many novice personal computer users have a question about the fact that graphics settings do not change in GTA 4, so I decided to write step-by-step instructions on how to fix this error in the game GTA 4.

If you cannot change the graphics in the game gta 4 on your computer, then this is all due to the fact that your computer has more than two gigabytes of a video card installed. All this can be corrected with a text notepad, to which you will need to add some settings.
And so, in order to fix this error, you will need to exit the game on your computer.

After you exit the game, you will need to open the game folder, which contains all the game files, then in the game folder, move the mouse cursor over an empty space and press the right mouse button once.
After that, a menu will open on your computer in which you will need to hover your mouse over the “Create” item, then another menu will open in which you will need to select a text document.

When you select the text document, a text document will be created on your computer, now we will need to rename this text document to the name “commandline”.
After you rename the created text document to the name “commandline”, you will need to open this document and perform the following steps:

And so, after you have opened the “commandline” text document, you will need to write the following settings in it -noprecache -nomemrestrict -norestrictions -novblank –nomemrestrict
After you specify these points in a text document, you will only have to save this text document; to do this, press the key combination Ctrl+S
After which this text document will be saved and you just have to close the text document.
After which the error in the gta 4 game will be corrected and all you have to do is start the game and check if we succeeded.

And so we launch gta 4 on our computer and go to the graphics settings and feel free to change the game settings, as we see, everything worked out for us.
And also in the “Resource Used” item, the video card was identified.
To save graphics settings in gta 4, you will need to press the spacebar.

When you press the spacebar, a window will open on your computer in which you will see a message confirming the changes to the settings in the gta 4 game, to continue and save the graphic settings, you will need to press the “Enter” key.
After which you can play the game with good graphics.

Please note: when you start playing the game gta 4 and suddenly it throws you out of the game and shows an error - critical error resc10, then you can view the instructions about

How to adjust the image on PlayStation 4?

There are not many connection options - you just need an HDMI interface, which is available on any modern TV or projector. Fortunately, an HDMI cable is supplied with the set-top box, and you don’t have to buy it additionally. Unfortunately, there are no other connection options - only digital output via HDMI. After connecting the set-top box to the TV, an image will appear on the screen, and most likely the optimal resolution and signal parameters will be set automatically.

It doesn't hurt to know what exactly each setting item means. In some cases, you may need to change some of the default settings.

The settings of interest are hidden in the PS4 menu in the section "Sound and Screen" in point "Video Output Settings".

  • Permission– 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080p or “Automatic”

Allows you to force the required video resolution. The closer it is to the physical resolution of your monitor, TV or projector, the better.

This option appears only when connected to a 3D TV - here you need to select the diagonal of your TV. It is not always defined correctly by default. This will affect the depth of the 3D effect that is achieved on a given TV diagonal.

This setting affects the main menu of the console, applications and games. If you have problems with image brightness or missing details in the shadows, this is the place for you.

Try switching between "Limited" and "Full" RGB range and choose the option that doesn't lose detail. Remember that the most universal setting for TVs is the RGB "Limited" range.

This setting mainly affects video playback from DVD and Blu-Ray discs. The setup logic here is exactly the same as in the previous paragraph.

The Deep Color function allows you to output video with a sampling rate higher than 8 bits (24 bit RGB). But this only happens if your equipment chain (TV, receiver) supports this, and the set-top box plays the corresponding content. Since there is practically no such content, with the exception of some video cameras and other specific devices, the Deep Color function can be safely turned off. At the same time, this will help solve the problem if something is clearly wrong with the colors, or the HDMI connection periodically gets lost.

Next, it wouldn’t hurt to take a look at the section "Display Area Settings". If the edges of the image are cut off on your TV, adjust the frame so that the display area matches the visible borders of the screen.

Finally, if your TV has a "Game Mode" or related option, try turning it on. It is quite possible that this will reduce the input signal delay, and the TV will respond faster to your actions. This will make the game more comfortable and productive. True, a lot depends on the capabilities of your TV.

Congratulations, your PlayStation 4 is now optimally configured to connect to your TV!
