0. If you had previous versions of the plugin, you must:
Go into the game and type in the console (~) " StopQuest CH" without quotes. Then exit the game. Delete ALL files related to the previous version. Enter the game again and do pure conservation(i.e. saving to a new slot after removing the plugin).

Note:

If you correctly updated the plugin using a clean save and the console commands “StopQuest CH” and “StartQuest CH”, as written above, then the “Horse Whistling” ability and the horn you purchased will return to your inventory automatically. If this does not happen, then use the following console commands: "set CHBuyHornCompleted to 1" - to return the horn, "set CHLearnWhistleCompleted to 1" - to return the ability to call a horse through a whistle, Afterwards, restart the quest using the commands "StopQuest CH" and " StartQuest CH".
If you are installing the mod for the first time, and not updating from an older version, then the author strongly recommends not using these console commands, but getting the horn and whistle in the standard way.

Setting:

Before you start playing, take a few minutes to configure the plugin. You can access the settings through the "Ride with Comfort" ability in the magic section. If you want to use the key mode, you need to set it up first.

Skyrim 1.6.89, SkSE 1.5.9 and higher

Horses for companions (compatible with UFO, AFT and EFF+SKSE, up to 15 horses can follow you).

Knocking down an opponent while riding a horse.

Horse calling animation.

Conversations on horseback.

When changing horses, the inventory contents are automatically moved from one horse to another.

The horse follows the player.

The ability to choose the level of health and stamina of a horse, as well as make it invulnerable.

Easy key customization.

Keys mode and multi-taping mode (Keys mode requires SKSE).

Settings

You can configure all parameters directly in the game. After installing the mod, the spell “Horseback riding with comfort” will appear in the “talents” section. After using it, the mod settings menu will appear.

The mod has two control modes, you can switch between them, or disable them altogether in the mod settings menu.

Keyboard mode requires a keyboard, mouse and SKSE version 1.5.9 or higher. Key mode allows you to customize the buttons to your liking.

Multitaping mode is selected automatically if you play with a gamepad, or play without SKSE. In this mode, you press the action keys (by default the “E” button on the keyboard, “A” on the gamepad) 1, 2 or 3 times depending on the desired action.

Key Mode:

You can customize all the keys to your liking in the mod settings.

Multitaping mode:

To open your inventory, press the action key on the horse twice. You must be on foot and out of combat.

To order a horse to follow you, press the action key on the horse three times. You must be on foot and out of combat.

To talk to an NPC or to check the contents of a chest, corpse, etc. while riding a horse, press the action key twice.

To collect herbs while riding a horse, press the action key twice. You must be out of combat.

To quickly dismount, press the action key during battle. The weapon will be drawn.

Faction Relations:

When you first start the game, the relationships between the factions will be adjusted. This is a long procedure, and it is better not to preserve it during this time. When the setup is complete, you will be notified. After this, your horse will not attack anyone, and no one will attack your horse. You can change the horse's attitude to neutral, like in the original. Please note that Convenient Horses does not customize factions from other mods so that they may attack your horse.

Horses of companions:

Supports vanilla companions and up to 15 companions from other mods (UFO, AFT and EFF+SKSE). If any of these mods are installed, the game will determine which one, so there is no need for any additional configuration. By default, this feature is disabled, but you can enable it in the mod settings. Once enabled, each of your companions will have their own horse. If the horse is killed, he will have a new one. If you are using UFO, you can turn off the horses from there by talking to Skulvar from the Whiterun stables.

You can customize the horse control modes of your companions using the mod settings. You can also change the color of their horses.

Calling a horse:

Before you can call a horse, you must purchase a horse calling horn from any groom. To do this, you must have 500 gold and a horse (not stolen) with you, otherwise the dialogue will not appear. After purchasing a horn in the "talents" section, you will be able to summon a horse. Only works when you are in the open world, not in a city.

Following the horse:

When entering a dangerous zone (camps, forts, etc.), the horse stops following you. When you leave such a zone, it follows you again. The horse also stops when you sneak. During the fight, the horse maintains its distance. You can configure this feature in the mod options.

Collecting herbs on horseback:

When you press the corresponding button, the ingredient is collected. You can also hold down the key.

Conversation on horseback and viewing the contents of chests and corpses:

You can talk to NPCs while riding a horse. You can also view the contents of the chest or inventory of an enemy you killed.

Horse Inventory:

When you change a horse, the inventory contents of the old horse are automatically transferred to the new one. You can use it both sitting on a horse and dismounting, but you must stand next to the horse. If you are in a major city, a store, or your home (vanilla), hold down the assigned inventory key to open the horse's bag. When a horse dies, you can take all the contents of its inventory.

Horses in the original version of Skyrim are not distinguished by either intelligence or self-preservation instinct - their attempts to hit the enemy with their hooves, as a rule, end with the need to save up for the next means of transportation. If you want to be able to control not only the behavior of your vehicle, but also its appearance, we recommend trying the Convenient horses mod.

Review of Realistic Convenient horses

The Convenient horses modification allows your character and his companions to get a completely new horse - not only in appearance, but also in relation to enemies and control. And the character himself is learning to sit in the saddle in a new way - now he has access to the mounted combat mode and the ability to collect loot directly from the saddle.

Players have access to:

  • Horses for companions (compatible with UFO, AFT and EFF mods, up to 15 horses for your companions, modified behavior, nice features)
  • Horse combat for companions.
  • Horse armor (new saddles and armor for your horse and the horses of your companions).
  • Cavalry mounted attack with variable physics.
  • Automatically collect loot without getting off your horse.
  • Instantly summon a horse with automatic landing in the saddle.
  • Horse whistle.
  • Conversations on horseback and searching corpses without leaving the saddle.
  • Horse herb collection.
  • Quickly jumping off a horse with automatic weapon draw.
  • Horse equipment with easy access.
  • Smart behavior of a horse when following you.
  • Choice of horse behavior during battle (cowardly or brave).
  • Selecting invulnerability mode and bonuses to horse health/stamina/speed.
  • Easy control via menu buttons and assigned shortcut buttons.

The mod adds ten new saddles and eight types of armor for horses, including Daedric armor, Dwemer armor and ebony plates. The additional horse equipment is called the Large Horse Sack and has unlimited sizes - however, if you want more realism, you can always set its size through the settings menu.

Horses do not follow their owners by default - if you want your vehicle to always follow you, do not forget to enable this option in the settings. There are two modes - Smart, “smart” mode, and Always, “always” mode. In “smart” mode, the horse can maintain a given distance from its owner and stop if he starts sneaking or enters one of the locations such as bandit camps, giant camps and similar places.

Note:

  • Do not leave horses in Solstheim, Soul Cairn, Blackreach, or near Fort Dawnguard, as horses cannot pass through zoned points on their own.

Setting:

  • Before using the mod, take a little time to configure it. Settings are available in-game in MCM. To control the assigned keys, you should first assign them (apparently for those who yell that nothing works for them). For companion horses to work, this function must first be enabled.

Control modes:

  • Key assignments: There are 5 actions available to which individual keys can be assigned - dialogue/loot, collection, inventory, quick dismount and activation of following. Requires SKSE and a disabled gamepad (if connected). If the conditions are not met, the control mode will automatically switch to successive combinations of one key (aka Multi-Tap.
  • Multi-Tap: The action button is used to control the top. Functions are activated depending on the number of consecutive clicks (like clicks and double clicks in the Windows interface).
  • One press - saddle/dismount.
  • Double tap on the ground to open the horse's inventory.
  • Triple tap on the ground - the horse follows you, combinations of taps on horseback - dialogue/loot/collection. This mode causes delays in mounting/dismounting as there is a delay to count the pushes. This delay can also be configured in the MCM.

Possibilities

Mounted combat for companions:

  • By default, the game does not support the use of mounted NPC combat. A lot of work was done on something that, in principle, should not work under any circumstances. Every attack and every detail is activated by tons of scripts, even preparing a weapon for battle or, on the contrary, sheathing a weapon. Behavior scripts also include target selection, contact distance, choice of side of attack and other small details.
  • Each companion will be given a weapon specifically for combat on horseback, which essentially has no damage; in any other case, satellites will miss the target in 90% of cases. These weapons are modified versions of regular weapons. The choice of weapons by companions is made at the beginning of their fight on horseback, depending on what weapons they use on the ground. If they do not have a weapon, then they receive one according to their combat skills, set material and player level.
  • Combat on horseback does not depend on the material of the weapon, but only on its type, player level, perks, strengthening spells cast, difficulty level and enemy defense. If on the difficulty you are playing it seems to you that the damage is too high/low, then it can be adjusted in MCM.

Horse armor:

  • Armor can be selected in MCM, separately for the main character and separately for satellites. There are: Leather, Nordic, Dwemer, Ebony, Daedric and Dragon (from Dragon Bone if you prefer). None of them actually give a bonus to the armor rating, they were made for beauty.

Ramming adversaries with a horse:

  • The horse can knock down any other NPCs in its path while sprinting, knocking them back and causing damage. Sprinting itself doesn't do anything, only when colliding with an object. When a possible collision is predetermined, the horse will make a small jerk towards the possible victim at the same time the GG will lean forward and yell like a Papuan.
  • The dash speed will increase from 10% to 50% depending on the level. Further damage will depend on the angle of impact, the target's defense and the speed of the horse, ranging from 5 to 160 damage. With each successful knockdown, the horse will lose 15-20% of its base stamina to prevent overuse of this feature.
  • A ram will not work on a target that has already been knocked down and will be extremely difficult to accomplish if the target is on your tail (figuratively...). It's best to use dash when your target is distracted from you by attacking someone else. Note: any target, be it friend or enemy, can be rammed. If you knock down a friendly target, you will be considered a criminal.

Calling a horse:

  • To use this function, you need to buy a forge from any stable owner for 500 septims. After purchasing the horn, it will be available as a skill. Use it to call a horse and after a short cutscene you will be on horseback. Only works in the open world outside of the city outside of combat. Avoid using this feature in enclosed areas.
  • Companions will also use the horn with you. If you have a mod installed for a corral with horses, use the skill in snick to call any horse at any distance, selecting by name. It is your responsibility not to leave horses in DLC locations.

Whistling:

  • An alternative option for calling a horse and more lore-based. Particularly effective when setting up a horse to follow when the horse stops due to a location filter. No special manipulations were used to implement the function, the horse will come to you directly with the help of AI. Waiting for an hour will speed up the process of the horse arriving if it is too far away. The whistle is available as a skill, but you will have to find out how to get it yourself as the game progresses.

Dialogues and search of corpses on horseback:

  • The function does not work by pointing at a target with the cursor, instead it uses the radius search method. It's worth paying attention to the relative position between the target and your horse. You can also conduct a dialogue with a target on a horse, because if a horse is detected within the radius, additional methods of detecting a character who may be on horseback come into play.
  • Searching corpses on horseback is just as accessible as if you were attempting to dialogue with the target. In the "Multi-Tap" mode, dialogues were combined with collecting vegetation, but priority will be calculated towards dialogue if there is an NPC nearby with whom you can talk.

Collecting vegetation on horseback:

  • Just like dialogues, the function activates a detection method for vegetation that can be collected. When using multi-tap mode, grass is collected by successive clicks; if these are stopped, an attempt will be made to collect all possible resources in the available radius at one time.
  • The assigned key allows you to collect all available resources by holding the key. In addition to the assignment of keys, the “Merge” function is an option that disables the collection key and combines it with dialogues and action (puts priority between dialogues/collection/loot as in the case of multi-tap.

Quick dismount:

  • No new animations have been added, it only replaces the dismounting animation with a jump or drawing a weapon if in battle while the character is behind a horse, creating the illusion of dismounting from the horse's back. In multi-tap mode, the standard dismount action will be replaced and can be configured to work in combat or be disabled altogether. Key assignment mode uses a separate key for the jump. If used in combat, the game will be forced to ignore the weapon's disarming animation.

Horse Inventory:

  • All items can be stored in a remote container called the Horse Bag. If your horse dies, all things will be restored immediately. Keybind mode allows you to access your horse's inventory if you have the advantage but still want to chew something. Works indoors, cities, estates and castles.
  • Also for the key assignment mode there is an additional function for quickly moving resources and ingredients. To access the function, hold down the definition key and call up the horse's inventory.
  • The definition button is dynamic and can be one of the following: 1.Alt, 2.Ctrl, 3.Shift, depending on which keys are used by the standard functions of the mod, the first available one will be used. If all the above keys are occupied by mod functions, then quick reset of resources/ingredients will not be available.

Balloon kit:

  • This useful item can be created at any smelter in the "miscellaneous" section. While in the inventory, it triggers automatically if your carry weight is exceeded, and gives 10,000 to your carry weight for 5 minutes.

Faction ratio:

  • When you first load the game with this plugin, a new friendly faction will be created for your horse, which will prevent your horse from attacking enemies or participating in combat. This procedure takes some time and can last as long as a minute. At this moment it is better not to save the game. .
  • Wait for the notification that the faction relations update has successfully completed (“Your horse is friendly to all factions”), then save and continue playing. If you don’t like this feature, you can set the neutral attitude, which is the default in the game. If you select neutral/friendly (in queue), then after you exit the settings menu and mount a horse, the faction attitude will be updated. This feature also affects the horses of your companions.

Smart horse following:

  • Horse following is disabled by default. Use the appropriate key in key mode or triple tap in multi-tap mode to make your horse follow you. Additional settings are in MCM.
  • You can disable or enable “always” following, and “smart” following is also available. Smart following mode means that your horse will follow you unless you are sneaking or in a dangerous area (bandit camps, forts, military camps, fortresses, etc.).
  • You can also set the distance at which your horse will walk (short/medium/long distance).

Horse behavior in battle:

  • There are two modes available: cowardly and brave. It is best to use this function based on the set faction ratio.
  • A cowardly horse will always try to avoid danger, run away from hostilities and enemies.
  • The brave one will, as soon as she sees the enemy, immediately rush at him, try to help all allies and will not leave the battle until she defeats the enemy or throws off her hooves.
  • Damage is calculated according to the following scheme: 20 units + player level. For example, having a friendly attitude of the factions and a brave behavior of the horse, you will get a horse that will not participate in battles, but will not run away from them either. On the other hand, if you do not set the neutral attitude of the factions and the brave behavior of the horse, you will get a full-fledged companion in battle.

Technical issues

Requirements:

  • Game version 1.8.151.0.7 or 1.9.32.0.8 and higher
  • SKSE 1.06.16 or 1.07.03 and higher for game version 1.9.32.0.8
  • SKSE 1.06.09 for game version 1.8.151.0.7
  • SkyUI 4.1 and higher for game version 1.9.32.0.8 and higher
  • SkyUI 3.4 for game version 1.8.151.0.7
  • DLC Dawnguard (optional)
  • Dragonborn DLC (optional)

Compatibility:

  • Conflicts with Better Horses, Horse Inventory or similar plugins that affect horses.
  • Conflicts with some plugins that affect companions. Especially those that change the behavior of companions regarding horses.

Supported modifications:

  • Requires Skyrim 1.9.32.0.8 and higher with or without Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC installed, SKSE 1.06.16 and higher is required.
  • Given how many functions, parameters and settings the plugin has, there may be conflicts with other plugins. In this case, you need to manually disable/connect plugins to find conflicting ones and disable them.
  • Dirty saves: if you did not make a clean save after removing conflicting plugins or old versions, then most likely the cause of your problems may be “dirty” saves (see the technical section for how to make clean saves). In this case, you just have to start a new game with with a new character. If after this no problems arise, then you can be 100% sure that there is a problem.
    was exactly this.
  • Something else - sometimes people report problems with animations etc. In this case, remove this plugin and check if any problems still exist. You may have had conflicting plugins before installing Comfortable Riding.

Upgrade from version 4.5+ to 5.0:

  1. In the game, open the console (default "tilde", also known as "~") and type "StopQuest CH" (without quotes) to stop all running scripts.
  2. Save the game, install a new version of the mod, load the game, enter StartQuest CH in the console, play.

Installation:

Only manually, the archive will not be installed through the NMM manager.

  1. Install SKSE 1.06.16 or 1.06.16 - depending on the version of your Skyrim. SKSE is only needed if you want to use key mode. The plugin itself does not require SKSE to work.
  2. Place the contents of the Data folder from the archive into the Data folder of your game.
  3. Connect the mod in the launcher or through the Wrye Bash program.

Removal:

  1. In the game, open the console (by default "tilde", also known as "~") and enter "StopQuest CH" (without quotes) to stop all running scripts. Before stopping the quest, make sure that none of the mod functions in the MSM menu are enabled!
  2. Make a clean save. All saves with scripts running from previous versions of this mod are considered "dirty" and can damage the game when loaded with a new version of the mod.
  3. Remove the mod.
