Tomb raider crashes. Tomb Raider won't start? Is the game slow? Crashes? Buggy? Solving the most common problems. Tomb Raider aspect ratio issues

If in terms of gameplay new game from the studio Crystal Dynamics can hardly be called a revolution in the genre, but in technical terms, on the contrary, it is quite revolutionary - beautiful and incredibly realistic. But it is not without its flaws, which we will help correct in this article.

The material will help you in cases where Rise of the Tomb Raider crashes, won't start, slows down, won't install, and also if the sound in the game doesn't work or other errors occur.

However, before moving on to solving problems with the game, you need to check the required computer configuration.

Rise of the Tomb Raider System Requirements

Minimum system requirements:

  • OS: Windows 7 (x64-bit version only);
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-2100 or equivalent in power from AMD;
  • RAM: 6 GB;
  • Video card: NVIDIA GTX 650 (2 GB) or AMD HD7770 (2 GB);
  • DirectX: 11 version;
  • Disk space: 25 GB.
Recommended system requirements:
  • OS: Windows 10 (x64-bit version only);
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770K or equivalent power from AMD;
  • RAM: 8 GB;
  • Video card: NVIDIA GTX 980Ti (for gaming at 2560x1440 resolution) or NVIDIA GTX 970 (for gaming at 1920x1080 resolution);
  • DirectX: 11 version;
  • Disk space: 25 GB.
Of course, when it comes to minimum requirements, one cannot ignore the fact that they are essentially not verified by anyone. Almost no one limits developers in setting the required configurations, and any performance problems are explained by the fact that the requirements are, they say, purely nominal. They will become relevant only after a series of patches that may be released over several years. And there, no one will remember the game, most likely.

This does not mean that these specifications should not be taken into account. As a rule, the minimum requirements are indeed true, since they determine the ability to run the game. Look at the recommended requirements with caution - they may easily not be worth a damn, or they may even be a commercial move to stimulate sales of video cards, processors and even operating systems (we all remember the tales about the phenomenal increase in fps on Windows 8, and even the “top ten” still heard).

Files, drivers and libraries

Before you start looking for your problem, you need to update your video card driver to the latest version:

A prerequisite for the successful functioning of any game is the availability of the latest drivers for all devices in the system. Download the utility Driver Updater to easily and quickly download the latest drivers and install them with one click:

  • download Driver Updater and run the program;
  • scan the system (usually it takes no more than five minutes);
  • Update outdated drivers with one click.
It is possible that you will have to update the supporting software, like DirectX, Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft Visual C++: Helper DLLs:

If you have done all this and the problem remains, you can look for it in the list below.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is crashing? Solution

The reasons for the crash can be very different, ranging from a bug in the game itself to a conflict between the game and some programs running in parallel. It is also possible that the crash is due to insufficient RAM. This is especially true for those who are trying to launch Rise of the Tomb Raider, having 4-6 GB of RAM.

If your game crashes, try disabling all programs that are not required for it - Skype, browser, music player and, possibly, antivirus (after all, if you honestly bought the game, then there can be no viruses in it).

Also, carefully read all error messages - they almost always contain information about the causes of the problem. If you don’t know English, then save a screenshot or write it down somewhere so you can ask knowledgeable people.

If the game starts, but then, already in the process of passing, crashes in various places, then there is a possibility that this is happening due to Steam Cloud Saves - the game sometimes cannot record saves in the cloud, which is why it crashes. Try disabling this option in Steam settings.

Is Rise of the Tomb Raider slowing down a lot? Solution

So, your game is running, but the frame rate is unbearably low. How to fix slowdowns, jamming, sagging?

The best and often only solution is to lower the graphics settings. Try reducing or completely disabling those options that do not greatly affect the quality of the picture: anti-aliasing, shadows, lighting and others. It all depends on your preferences.

However, this does not always help, because we live in a time when developers often enter into contracts with certain manufacturers of video cards and processors in order to optimize the game specifically for them. Unfortunately, Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the victims of this "collaboration". This is reflected in a significant decrease in performance on those computers that have an AMD video card. Sometimes this problem cannot be fixed even several months after the release, so do not rely too much on new drivers.

Rise of the Tomb Raider has no sound? Solution

First, make sure the sound is turned on in the game settings. Next, if this is not the problem, then try running the game in compatibility mode. However, it often happens that problems with sound lie in the “iron” area: either the cable is bent somewhere and because of this it fails, or the contacts have deteriorated due to careless handling or due to initially poor production quality.

Rise of the Tomb Raider gives an error about missing DLL file? Solution

Well, it's simple: you need to load the required DLL. We have already noted such files above, but sometimes you may encounter the problem of a specific DLL file being missing. The easiest way to fix this is to use a program, but sometimes it will be enough to simply check the integrity of the cache in Steam.

Rise of the Tomb Raider won't install? Solution

Sometimes problems begin already at the installation stage. First, make sure that there is enough free space on the hard drive on which you are installing the game. Always try not to overcrowd the screw, and keep at least 10% of the total disk volume free.

Secondly, try to understand what kind of error occurs during installation. Perhaps the problem is not in your computer, but in damaged, “broken” archives. This can happen if your Internet connection is often disconnected when downloading a game. It's not so scary. The scary thing is that regular problems with files on the disk may indicate that it is faulty. In this case, try to keep a backup copy of all important files and diagnose the state of your file storage as soon as possible using special programs. At the same time, do not waste time, because your hard drive may be reaching its end. last days, hours or even minutes.

Thirdly, some games and programs “digest” Cyrillic characters in the installation path very poorly. Try to avoid such situations and always write the path exclusively in Latin letters (preferably without spaces, but this is much less common).

Rise of the Tomb Raider has a black screen? Solution

First, try running the game in windowed mode and disabling the Steam overlay. Most often, this problem is associated precisely with the settings of other programs running on the computer, but it can also occur when using a configuration of several monitors at the same time.

To force an application to windowed mode, use the commands Alt+Enter or Alt+Esc.

Mouse and keyboard not working in Rise of the? Solution

If the problem with the drivers of devices connected to USB is not relevant, then the whole point is a conflict between the devices themselves. For example, if you use a graphics tablet or external sound card, their drivers may conflict with your mouse or keyboard drivers.

To solve this problem, try disconnecting (unplugging) all peripheral devices except the mouse and keyboard. If the problem will go away, then try connecting other devices one by one. This way you will identify exactly the device that is not working correctly and will be able to localize the problem, so that you can then heroically solve it using specialized resources.

Is the camera bad in Rise of the Tomb Raider? Solution

On some configurations, there is a problem with strange behavior of the camera: the higher the screen resolution, the worse it moves. Unfortunately, this is a bug in the game, and the only way to fix it at the moment is by lowering the resolution. Most likely, patches will correct the situation.

If you are faced with the fact that Rise of the Tomb Raider slows down, crashes, Rise of the Tomb Raider does not start, Rise of the Tomb Raider does not install, controls do not work in Rise of the Tomb Raider, there is no sound, errors pop up, saves do not work in Rise of the Tomb Raider - we offer you the most common ways to solve these problems.

First, check if your PC's specifications meet the minimum system requirements:

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-2100 or AMD equivalent
  • Memory: 6 GB
  • Video: DirectX 11 compatible video card, NVIDIA GTX 650/AMD HD7770 (2 GB)
  • HDD: 25 GB
  • DirectX: 11

Be sure to update your video card drivers and other software

Before you remember the worst words and express them towards the developers, do not forget to go to the official website of the manufacturer of your video card and download the latest drivers. Often, drivers specially optimized for them are prepared for the release of games. You can also try installing a later version of drivers if the problem is not solved by installing the current version.

It is important to remember that you should only download the final versions of video cards - try not to use beta versions, as they may have a large number of unfound and unfixed errors.

Do not forget that for stable operation of games, installation of the latest version of DirectX is often required, which can always be downloaded from the official Microsoft website.

Rise of the Tomb Raider won't launch

Many problems with launching games occur due to incorrect installation. Check if there were any errors during installation, try uninstalling the game and running the installer again, after disabling the antivirus - often files necessary for the game to work are deleted by mistake. It is also important to remember that in the path to the folder with installed game There should be no Cyrillic characters - use only Latin letters and numbers for catalog names.

It also doesn’t hurt to check if there is enough space on the HDD for installation. You can try to run the game as Administrator in compatibility mode different versions Windows.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is slow. Low FPS. Lags. Friezes. Freezes

First, install the latest drivers for your video card; this can significantly increase the FPS in the game. Also check your computer's load in the task manager (opened by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE). If before starting the game you see that some process is consuming too many resources, turn off its program or simply end this process from the task manager.

Next, go to the graphics settings in the game. First of all, turn off anti-aliasing and try lowering the post-processing settings. Many of them consume a lot of resources and disabling them will significantly improve performance without significantly affecting the picture quality.

Rise of the Tomb Raider crashes to desktop

If Rise of the Tomb Raider often crashes on your desktop slot, try to start solving the problem by lowering the graphics quality. It is possible that your computer simply does not have enough performance and the game cannot run correctly. It's also worth checking for updates - most modern games have a system for automatically installing new patches. Check if this option is disabled in the settings.

Black screen in Rise of the Tomb Raider

More often than not, the problem with a black screen is an issue with the GPU. Check if your video card is compatible minimum requirements and install the latest drivers. Sometimes a black screen is a result of insufficient CPU performance.

If everything is fine with the hardware and it meets the minimum requirements, try switching to another window (ALT+TAB), and then returning to the game window.

Rise of the Tomb Raider won't install. Installation stuck

First of all, check if you have enough HDD space for installation. Remember that for the installation program to work correctly, the stated amount of space is required, plus 1-2 gigabytes of free space on the system disk. In general, remember the rule - there should always be at least 2 gigabytes of free space on the system disk for temporary files. Otherwise, both games and programs may not work correctly or may refuse to start at all.

Installation problems can also occur due to a lack of Internet connection or unstable operation. Also, do not forget to pause the antivirus while installing the game - sometimes it interferes with the correct copying of files or deletes them by mistake, considering them viruses.

Saves not working in Rise of the Tomb Raider

By analogy with the previous solution, check the availability of free space on the HDD - both on the one where the game is installed and on the system drive. Often save files are stored in a documents folder, which is located separately from the game itself.

Controls not working in Rise of the Tomb Raider

Sometimes game controls do not work due to multiple input devices being connected at the same time. Try disabling the gamepad or, if for some reason you have two keyboards or mice connected, leave only one pair of devices. If your gamepad does not work, then remember - games are officially supported only by controllers defined as Xbox joysticks. If your controller is detected differently, try using programs that emulate Xbox joysticks (for example, x360ce).

Sound not working in Rise of the Tomb Raider

Check if the sound works in other programs. After this, check whether the sound is turned off in the game settings and whether the sound playback device to which your speakers or headset is connected is selected there. Next, while the game is running, open the mixer and check if the sound there is muted.

If you are using an external sound card– check for new drivers on the manufacturer’s website.

After a short stint as an Xbox exclusive, Rise of The Tomb Raider moved to personal computers and then to PlayStation. Optimization problems are not a problem for console owners, but Windows fans are faced with a number of bugs and errors. Rise of The Tomb Raider won't launch, lags, crashes, and in other ways spoils fans' impressions of itself. It is, of course, better optimized than the recent Batman, but the developers failed to make the game ideal. So, let's look at what's new in Rise of The Tomb Raider, as well as the difficulties encountered by gamers. From the article you will learn why Rise of The Tomb Raider does not launch, reasons and solutions. Let's begin.

Lara Croft in Russia

In the fall of 2015, Xbox received a new exclusive - Rise of The Tomb Raider. The action-adventure and RPG game is a continuation of the famous series. This time the heroine goes to Russia to unravel the mystery of immortality. The action will take place in cold Siberia. The heroine will be opposed by a secret organization; animals, including even bears, also pose a danger. Hunting played a special role. The actions of animals depend on weather conditions; during storms, many of them hide in holes. The visibility of the heroine and opponents is affected by drizzle and fog. In the game you can climb high rocks and swim underwater. The ability to create medicines and arrows has been implemented. Weapons can be upgraded. Great attention is paid to combat tactics; there is almost no stealth mode. Despite the formidable opponents, the main enemy is the environment. Avalanches and snow storms pose a danger. Already at this point it is clear that those who do not launch Rise of The Tomb Raider are very unlucky.

The game series is famous primarily for its puzzles. In the new part they have become more complex and interesting. There are several options for solving them. Some riddles are used from previous parts.

The graphics are very good high level, it can be called one of the reasons why it does not start and slows down. Every piece is worked out in detail. Lara's clothes get torn and dirty as she goes, getting wet when submerged in water, and then drying out. The heroine reacts to the ambient temperature. There are traces of animals and NPCs left in the snow, which can be used to track them.

That's so much new in Rise of The Tomb Raider. Solving launch problems will hopefully help gamers immerse themselves in an interesting gaming world.

Game requirements

Each new release has more and more demanding demands on the hardware of users. Rise of The Tomb Raider stopped launching for many gamers precisely because of them, since the game was originally developed for consoles. Please read the requirements carefully to avoid any questions in the future.

Minimum requirements:

  • The game only works on Windows 7 and later. Requires 64-bit version operating system.
  • Processor: no older than dual-core Core i3-2100 with a clock frequency of 3.1 GHz from Intel. With similar parameters from AMD.
  • RAM capacity: at least 6 GB.
  • Video card: GTX 650 with 2 GB of memory from Nvidia or equivalent from AMD.
  • There must be at least 25 GB of free space on your hard drive.
  • Works only with DirectX 11 version.
  • Operating system: Windows 7 or later (64-bit only).
  • Processor: Quad-core Core i7-3770K from Intel or similar from AMD.
  • The desired amount of RAM is 8 GB.
  • The graphics card is ideal with 6GB of memory and will provide excellent performance even at high resolutions. A similar option is the GTX 970.
  • Free memory: 25 GB.
  • DirectX: 11 version.

Driver updates

Before you blame the developers and say bad words about them, do not forget to update the drivers for your video card. You can download them from the official website of the manufacturer. Often, optimized drivers are released before the release of a major project. Even if the latest version does not solve all the problems with launching the game, some of them will definitely disappear. Updating other system components will be a definite plus. Special programs will help with this, they do all the work for the user, and he just has to look at the result.

To optimize the operation of the software, we regularly issue updated versions utilities For example, Razer Game Booster has already gained immense popularity among gamers due to its effectiveness. Such applications will close unnecessary processes for you when you start the game, and then return everything to its place.

Brakes

Not only does Rise of The Tomb Raider not start for many people, it also often slows down. Most often there is only one reason - a weak video card. The developers awarded "The Raider" with beautiful graphics and impressive requirements. For stable operation, 4 GB of video memory is required. The solution may be to reduce the quality in the game settings or its files. There have been cases when users used the integrated one instead. You can check the correctness of your choice in the chip settings. Also, to improve your frames per second, prioritize performance over quality. This can be done in the same menu.

Not installed

Often problems arise already at this stage. First, disable your antivirus programs. Install the game in directories that contain only Latin letters. Make sure that the disk you are installing on has enough memory. The problem may not be caused by your PC, but by corrupted archives. In this case, you need to check the integrity of the cache in Steam.

Black screen

It often appears among owners of weak processors and if the hardware meets the requirements, switching to windowed mode helps. You can also try switching to another window (ALT + TAB) and then returning to the game.

NTDLL error

Some users experience a crash immediately after startup and an error message appears with the file ntdll.dll. This means that either it is not on the computer at all, or it is damaged. Solved by checking the integrity of the cache. Sometimes you have to reinstall and disable antivirus programs.

In addition, errors often occur (not only in Rise of The Tomb Raider) related to the lack of dll files. They can be solved by installing the DLL Fixer program and scanning the system. The utility finds missing files and restores them.

Problems with camera

It is extremely rare, but “inappropriate” camera behavior does occur. This makes it impossible to play. Happens during installation high resolution. The solution is to lower the resolution. There is no other way to get rid of the bug today. A patch should be released soon that will solve the problem.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was finally released on PC, but, unfortunately, gamers greeted the game with the usual issues for PCs - lags, errors, compatibility with Windows 10, missing DLL and much more. We present to you a list of solutions for errors in the game Rise of the Tomb Raider.

The most common problems:

Rise of the Tomb Raider and error 0xc000007b

This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). The most common cause of application startup error 0xc000007b is problems with NVidia drivers.

Possible solutions

  1. Reinstall your video card drivers
  2. Try running the game as administrator
  3. Install/update DirectX, Visual C++, . Net Framework. Download all files only from the official Microsoft website.
  4. Open the Run command line through the Start menu and type sfc /scannow. Using this command, your PC will scan system files and fix some errors.
  5. Remove unnecessary software that may conflict with the video driver. Basically these are various graphics “improvers”. The fewer additional applications you have running, the better.

Method using Dependency Walker 64bit

Optimizing Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC

This is quite a voluminous topic. There are several steps you can take to improve productivity.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Optimization Tips

Update your video driver
Nvidia/AMD

Use lower graphics settings
This is the most obvious one, but also effective method. Try lowering graphic settings in the game and set the resolution to the lowest possible. The biggest impacts on performance are: anti-aliasing settings, detail, quality of shadows and textures, and draw distance.

Overclock your processor and graphics card
The processor and video card in your PC can be overclocked. Before you start overclocking, make sure that you have a sufficiently powerful power supply and good cooling of your PC components. As a rule, all modern motherboards have a specialized set of utilities from the manufacturer, with which you can safely overclock your video card, processor or RAM. Please note that some video cards (usually with the addition of OC Edition in the name) already come from the manufacturer with inflated frequencies. Also, don't try to overclock your laptop. You can find more detailed information on overclocking websites.

You can optimize Rise of the Tomb Raider graphics settings in NVIDIA GeForce Experience
NVIDIA GeForce Experience / AMD Gaming Evolved / Intel HD Graphics Control Panel - applications with various functions, including game optimization.

Use programs to clean your computer
On the Internet you can find various, both paid and free programs for cleaning your computer. Advanced SystemCare is one of the most famous.

Defragmenting and cleaning your hard drive
Open disk properties. Go to the “Tools” tab -> click the “Defragment (or optimize)” button. There, in the properties, check and clean the disk.

NVIDIA/AMD Control Panel
In the NVIDIA (or AMD) Control Panel, select the Manage 3D Settings tab (NVIDIA), or Games -> 3D Application Settings (AMD). Here you can set global graphics processing settings if necessary. Or go to “Adjust image settings with preview” (for NVIDIA), then “Custom settings -> Performance”, moving the slider to the left.

Remove unnecessary processes from startup
Click the Start button (or the Windows logo button on your keyboard). Type msconfig command, press Enter. In the system configuration window that opens, open the “Startup” tab (in Win 10, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and open the same tab). Here are collected all the programs that are loaded when Windows startup. Disable everything you don't need (only disable known programs, otherwise you risk damaging your computer's startup). Restart your computer. Do not launch applications (browser, Skype, etc.). Launch Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Speed up Windows
Turn off Aero effects in Windows, disable unused services, built-in debuggers, and more.

Use a flash drive as RAM
Click right click mouse on the flash drive and select “Properties”. Open the “Ready Boost” tab, check the “Use this device” checkbox.

Improve performance in Rise of the Tomb Raider
Follow these steps: Update your video card driver. Restart your PC. Set the resolution to a lower resolution and also select low visual effects in the graphics settings. It is not recommended to use any kind of accelerators and “boosters”, since they also require the resources of your system, and their real usefulness in most cases is almost invisible. While you can infect your PC with a virus. Reinstall Windows. This method should be considered as a last resort if other options do not work. This can help, because after several years of operation, your “OS” grows with outdated files and processes so much that the execution of programs slows down significantly. See for more details.

  • Restart your computer
  • Reinstall the game

"Out of memory" error

Possible reasons: the game does not have enough RAM; there is not enough space on the hard drive for the paging file; you yourself adjusted the size of the paging file (or disabled it, or used software); Some program causes a memory leak (open the task manager CTRL+ALT+DELETE and sort applications by memory consumption).

Rise of the Tomb Raider stopped launching

What changes have you made to the computer? Perhaps the problem was caused by the installation new program. Open the list of installed programs (Start -> Add or Remove Programs), sort by date. Remove recently installed ones. Reinstall Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Also check the task manager. If there are copies of Rise of the Tomb Raider processes running, end them all.

Rise of the Tomb Raider crashes without error

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus (especially in the case of Avast!). Also see tips in the startup errors section.

Rise of the Tomb Raider - BSOD or Blue Screen

BSOD usually means there is some serious problem with your system that is not related to the game. First of all, check your power supply. If it overheats, it will turn off. Also, if the system does not have enough power from it, then various errors are possible, including BSOD. Test other components of your PC. On the Internet you can find various utilities for checking memory, hard drive and video card.
