Without this, how can you determine whether to focus on hotel placement on St. Arbat or buy up all the Railways? You can't do everything - it's about making the right trades and taking the right decisions. right decisions at different stages of the game. This is just my interpretation of the numbers, but below I propose a winning strategy and back it up with data.

The ROI data used on this page is taken from: Monopoly Game Probabilities. The probability of landing on any field was calculated by creating a game model (with all the cards “Chance”, “Go to Jail”, etc.) and running billions of combinations in the computer. My task was to analyze the data, create a table to facilitate analysis and combine the resulting data into several simple rules, which will form a winning strategy.

Monopoly is a game of luck, strategy and communication skills.. No strategy guarantees winning; this is one of the reasons why Monopoly is so fun. In any game, a newcomer can beat a permanent champion. However, there are several strategic clues that have been gleaned from computer simulations. They will help you make the best use of probabilities: you may not win a single game, but in the long run you will be ahead of everyone. Here I am not touching on the element of communicating with people. However, try to imagine what your rivals want and try to make a deal with them that will benefit both of you. This type of business management is necessary in Monopoly, just as it is in real life.

Note: Side 1 of the board is the first side you walk on after you pass Forward: Zhitnaya Street/Nagatinskaya Street/Varshavskoe Highway, etc. Sides 2-4 are in order.

How to win Monopoly - a simple strategy:

• Always buy Railways; never buy Utilities (full price)*
• For other types of property, buy it to exercise a monopoly or to prevent rivals from exercising a monopoly. This can often mean buying as much property as possible early in the game, but keep a close eye on your cash reserves.
• At the beginning of the game, concentrate on collecting full C-G[Color Group: all 2 or 3 properties of the same color] on Sides 1+2, even if this means selling properties on Sides 2+3. After you collect one of these Color Groups, build 3 houses as soon as possible: no more, no less!
• Once your first Color Group starts bringing in the first cash, focus on getting a full Color Group and building 3 houses on Sides 3+4.
• Note: The 3 houses are the sweet spot in the game, as shown below in Table 1. This is the point where you put your money to good use.
• A single property is the worst investment unless you build on it.
• The only exception to the rule There is a case where you need to purchase a separate property in order to prevent your opponents from collecting a full Color Group and implementing the above strategy.
• Prison can be beneficial. Stay in the Prison as long as possible while your opponent has a monopoly - at this stage of the game, moving around the playing field will most likely cause you to lose money. However, until this happens, pay $50 and leave the Prison as early as possible - you need to continue the race to purchase property and collect your $200 salary.
• One interesting exception: Do you need Ryazansky Avenue and Vavilova Street to complete the Color Group? Stay in the Prison and try to get out of there by throwing a “double” (two identical numbers): this will increase your hit on the required fields by 25%.

5 best starting positions - in order:

• All 4 railways
• The reason this is the best starting point: income from railways is more stable over time. While other properties may have the same ROI, they require larger payments over time. Acquired 3-4 railways are a reliable source of money, a kind of “cash cow”: they will steadily bring in money to finance your monopolies.
• 3 houses on each property of the orange Color Group (Ryazansky Prospekt/Vavilova St./Rublevskoe Highway)
• 3 houses on each property of the blue Color Group (Varshavskoe highway/Ogareva St./Pervaya Parkovaya St.)
• 3 houses on each property of the light purple Color Group (Polyanka St./Sretenka St./Rostovskaya embankment)
• Hotel on each property of the dark purple Color Group (Zhitnaya St./Nagatinskaya St.)
• The last position gives the worst return of all 5 positions; in fact, until you have 4 houses, this Color Group is the worst to invest in!
• However, this position has 2 advantages: it is the cheapest of the 5, and there are only 2 properties on it, so acquiring the entire Color Group is much easier, especially in large games.

*I am assuming that all properties are selling at prices close to those listed. Usually this condition is true, but sometimes the property goes away from auction or is sold at lower or higher prices; this changes the degree of value of its acquisition.

An example of what this strategy means

Early in the game, before players start building houses, consider a situation in which you own the entire orange Color Group except Ryazansky Prospekt (that is, you own Vavilova St./Rublevskoe Highway), and you also have Ul. . Arbat. Conversely, the opponent owns the entire blue Color Group except Ul. Arbat (that is, it has Malaya Bronnaya Street), as well as Ryazansky Prospekt. Obviously, you want to perform certain trades in order to fully collect each of your Color Groups. The only problem is that St. Arbat costs $400, and Ryazansky Prospekt costs $180. And get to hotels on Ul. Arbat is much worse than hotels on Ryazansky Prospekt. Therefore, you will not want to part with the street so easily. Arbat.

However, following the strategy outlined above, in this case I would sell Ul. Arbat to get Ryazansky Prospekt. Of course, you don't want your rivals to be able to build houses and hotels on the street. Arbat. However, they will never be able to do this unless they have houses that generate income on cheaper properties. In the meantime, you can put 3 houses on each orange Color Group property, which, as shown in Table 1, are investments, paying for itself faster than any other real estate. The third group of houses will pay for itself every 9.5 dice rolls of your opponents. When you start taking money away from them so quickly, they will not be able to find financing to develop their own properties, especially expensive ones.

Where does this strategy come from?

Table 1 below is the key to understanding how to win at Monopoly. It answers the most important question: how long will it take for me to get my $400 back if I buy Ul. Arbat? And also: after what period of time will my $100 be returned to me if I place hotels on Zhitnyaya and Nagatinskaya streets? And so on for all the possibilities on the playing field. The average number of rolls of each opponent's dice required for you to get your money back is given in the table as the time to reach the equilibrium point.

For example, if you have one house on Ryazansky Prospekt/St. Vavilova/Rublevskoe highway. and 3 houses on the street. Malaya Bronnaya/St. Arbat, what is the best place to spend money on construction? Judging by the table, it is best to build another group of houses on Ryazansky Prospekt/Ul. Vavilova/Rublevskoe highway: 25.63< 35.56.

Red means the least amount of time. I have highlighted with a black line the options that require the least amount of time. This is what you should strive for. Essentially, the fastest way to get your money back is when you place a third group of homes on any property group. For Party Color Groups 1-2, you can also add 4 houses or a hotel and still get value for your investment.

Owning all 4 railroads is one of the best options. Owning 1-2 railways is not so profitable. But by buying them, you at least prevent your rivals from buying all 4 railways. Owning a single property without having a full Color Group is one of the worst investments you can make unless you buy it to prevent your opponents from collecting a full Color Group.

While Table 1 provides information about values, the properties in the boxes have different values. 3 houses on the street. Arbats provide a very favorable return on investment, but you won't have enough money to get to that point and buy these houses in the early stages of the game. Why then consider this option? What's the best first move? Table 2 shows the total costs required to achieve any particular state. In the early stages of the game, you need to concentrate on the opportunities indicated in red and yellow in Table 2. As the game progresses, it is best to use the opportunities indicated in blue.

This leaves us with the 3 most profitable starting positions at the very top of the table (the 3 best are circled in Table 2). You can get all 3 for less than $1,500, and on average, you'll be able to make your investment back again and again every 13 times your opponents roll the dice, or less. So if you're playing against 4 players, that means about every three laps. In 6 laps you will have doubled your last investment and will be on your way to building a monopoly.

Note : The data in Table 1 assumes that players only complete one round of the Jail and exit by paying $50, using a Get Out of Jail card, or rolling a double on the first try. Arbat: the time on them increases by only 10% if your opponents miss three laps in the Prison instead of one.

The table shows how much time it takes to cover only additional expenses, and not all expenses up to that point. In other words, on average, 9.5 moves are needed to cover the cost of $300 for the construction of the third group of houses in the Color Group in which Ryaz/Vavil/Rubl are located. By this time, you likely won't have covered the costs needed to get to this point—the first two sets of homes. However, your money making mechanism will work on top level ROI at this point and will effectively help you recoup your previous investment. What happens if you invest in a Color Group that has Ryaz/Bavil/Ruble in it, but never gets to the point where you have 3 houses? Does this best choice? Maybe not, but the difference is insignificant. Naturally, the costs of the last property in Ryaz/Vavil/Rubl will require more time to cover them than in Tver/Pushk/Mayakov. But the difference is less than 5%. Before you build 3 houses, Ryaz/Vavil/Rubl will be almost 20% better.
