Implementation of AI

The Wargaming team introduces artificial intelligence into the game, which is called “bots” in the game. However, this will only happen on the Australian and South American servers for now, since in these regions there are few players online, as a result, you have to wait a long time to enter the battle. Bots will be introduced at low levels to speed up player wait times.

From levels 1 to 5, bots will be introduced after waiting 20 seconds to enter battle. Maximum amount AI will reach 7 units of equipment.

Bots will be different. At the beginning and at the end of each nickname there will be a “:”, as well as a special patch.

Locations where players will fight with tanks, controlled by artificial intelligence, will be practically the same as in regular battles.

How to take part in testing update 1.3

First you need to download the installer. The installation process will be similar to installing the standard game client. At startup you will be prompted to install test client to a new folder.

The test client must be installed only in a new path, otherwise conflicts with the standard game client may occur.

If the test client has already been installed previously, then you will need to run it to download new updates.

You should be aware that a large number of players take part in testing updates, so if the server is overloaded, you will need to wait until space becomes free.

Everything that happens on the test server will not be taken into account on the main one. Also, during the test you cannot buy equipment or items for your main account. But violations that were created by the player will apply to the account, so it is not recommended to neglect participation in testing.

Conclusion

There are a few other changes worth noting:

  1. LBZ 1.0. Many combat missions have been changed. Basically, tasks where it was necessary to fulfill conditions in a platoon were redone for solo playthrough, and accordingly the difficulty of completion was reduced.
  2. The completion of the objectives of the first campaign can now also be tracked during the battle, as in. The progress will be visible at the top of the screen, and when you press the “Tab” button, complete information about the current task will be displayed.
  3. The in-game store now loads faster. It also now has filters to make it easier to find the item you want.
  4. HE shells. Fixed a bug with a high-explosive fragmentation projectile being hit and not penetrating it. Now HE shells that fail to penetrate armor will display appropriate information indicating that the shell did not penetrate armor. This change is important primarily when performing personal combat missions to block damage.

Every year at the main gaming exhibitions Wargaming is holding a spectacular display of World of Tanks. You've probably seen (at least on Igromir) huge stands in red and black, where local tournaments are often held. There was a similar situation at Gamescom - except that this year the developers brought several really interesting innovations regarding World of Tanks to the exhibition in Cologne. The game’s marketing director, Maxim Chuvalov, told us what will soon happen to the PC “Tanks”.

Wargaming had two demo zones at the exhibition. On the first one you could try the “ General battles"is end-game content for level ten tanks. For this mode, the Nebelburg map was doubled - up to two square kilometers. There will also be more players: 60 people will face each other on the updated map. For winning the mode you can get so-called “bonds” - these are the new kind currency that allows you to purchase pre-battle instructions and improved equipment. “General Battles” are already available to all users with the release of patch 9.20.

The second demo zone was dedicated to graphic updates World of Tanks PC client. This is a very important topic: under every material about the console version of “Tanks” there is always a group of PC players who would also like to see improved graphics on their platform. Back at Wargaming Fest last year, the developers showed six updated maps, and now the list has been replenished with three more.

The new graphics will include new rendering technology and effects like anti-aliasing and tessellation, as well as improved shadows and particles. The maps themselves now support the Havok physics engine. This is a client feature - if a player runs into a fence, then this fence will realistically fall apart, but only on the player’s monitor. For other tankers, the picture will not change. On this moment no total destructibility is planned - this is too global an innovation that will completely change the usual gameplay. But Wargaming is experimenting with weather effects with all its might: if there is an ocean on the map, then there is a thirty percent chance that a tornado will appear. Again, such effects will be purely decorative.

Many objects in the new World versions of Tanks were created using photogrammetry technology. These are mainly landscape details such as cobblestones, as well as environmental objects. Each map in the game has its own theme with a real-life prototype. For example, to update a desert map, a group of artists went to Jordan for a reference. “The King of Jordan is a big fan of our game and good friend Victor Kisly. He was happy to show us his tank collection, so in addition to the photo reference, we were also able to film the sounds of the tanks. He has a large collection: there are third Panzers and British Centurions,” said Maxim Chuvalov.

A global update of graphics is impossible without amendments to the level design. According to Maxim, the developers had a task not only to visually improve the game, but also to ensure that new elements did not affect the gameplay too much. “On those maps where we are satisfied with the gameplay, we practically did not touch it. On the other maps we have more room for improvements,” added Maxim. - “It’s one thing when you remember the location of a cobblestone that has a hundred polygons. When the detail of the stone increases 10-15 times, it is important that the usual lumbago remains in place. If you don’t keep track of this, then experienced players simply won’t understand it.” Since new graphics may affect the balance, all innovations will first go through the testing stage.

Maxim assured us that the improved graphics will not affect the minimum system requirements. That is, if you are used to playing low settings, then the new effects will simply not be available to you, and there is no need to run to upgrade your PC. But for those who want modern graphics, the developers provide this opportunity.

In addition to graphics, Wargaming talked about the new soundtrack. “Our sound team is currently recruiting local composers to create an authentic soundtrack. We want the immersion into the world of tanks to be more complete, and graphics alone are not enough,” Maxim assured us. The music will constantly change based on what exactly is happening on the battlefield. “Essentially, we made an infinite sequence that will change smoothly depending on whether you win or lose.”

The ambient system has also changed: previously one soundtrack was applied to the entire map. Now the locations are divided into different zones, and as soon as the player enters them, the sound environment will change. For example, if you drive to the ocean shore, you will hear the surf and the sound of seagulls. Or here’s a less romantic example: when a tank fires a salvo in a narrow street, the sound will roll out like a wave, and the shot inside the castle will be reflected from the walls.

So far, all technical changes are being tested on private servers. People invite you to them by invitation: sometimes access requires a certain number of battles, sometimes a certain system specification is required. There is no information yet when the updated World of Tanks will be publicly available. According to Maxim, the developers want to process all the cards and release the update in one big pack.
